i just got back from advanced aut, and almost bought some shell oil for my 95 neon, on sale, $1.24! last week, ofr april pennzoil was on sale, for $1.64 i belive. i decided not to get it though, perhpas next week, i'll stock up on some. they were SL oils.
i wish shell's fire and ice oils were back/around, i remember seeing them at a shell gas staiton here, when i was younger, supposedly, they were really good oils, with a VERY descent add pack
Another 1.8 mpg? Mighty handy with these high gas prices now!
Labgh, how about telling us some details, such as:
*What weight of Formula Shell oil are you using? *is it SL/GF-3 or SL/GF-4?
*What car & engine do you have?
*Before & after gas mileage?
Formuls Shell 5w30 SL/GF-3, with Auto-Rx, is in my car now- ~1100 miles into the Auto-Rx cleaning treatment. I have ~30 qts more waiting in the carport closet.
On paper anyway the Shell multi-grades look decent. The 5w30 look like a "hearty" 5w30. The vis at 40*C and 100*C are roughly equal to the vis of 10w30 Motorcraft oil at the same temps. The flash point of 420-430 also looks decent.

Thanks, labgh. I can't help but wonder- is Formula Shell just an OK/good enough for 3K miles/etc type of oil, *or*: do we have a real "sleeper" of a motor oil here?
I plan on 2 full Auto-Rx clean & rinse cycles with it, so the Neon's gonna see a lot of FS in the near future.
I will go back to Havoline when I change it next time, I just bought it on sale at Fred's because I was there. The Shell seems to be doing good, and I have been surprised by the better MPG.
