Shell V Power fuel system cleaner

CourierDriver,

I don't know what brand of gas you use but IF you use Shell gasoline you don't need their fuel system cleaner cuz the gas has that fancy Nitrogen filled gasoline. :-)

I'll bet it's just as good as Chevron's "Techron" or other additives on the market. I admit I use Techron after I have my car/truck serviced.

I got a bottle because it was cheap and it said it will mix with 30 gallons of gas.

CourierDriver,

With the cost of things now a days I don't blame you at all! The Shell product you have appears to be just as good as the Chevron's brand "Techron" and should give you good results.

Take care,

Try Redline SL-1...IMHO its the best Complete Fuel System Cleaner available...Techron FSC is also very good.

Just a thought...usually anything sold at Big Lots is products that are over-produced, not selling well or the company (Shell) has created another better product.

Yeah, I just bought two more bottles(18oz/$2.50) Sunday 3/21. I had purchaced the last 2 bottles on the shelf sometime at the end of January for the same price. BigLots seems to have gotten another shipment. I don't know if the V-Power is a good product like Techron/Regane/SL-1 but, it's a great price for a Complete Fuel System Cleaner.

Don't know! The info on the bottles I purchaced have this:

At $2.50, I succumbed to the temptation a few weeks ago. Somewhere here on BITOG, I saw a post indicating that amine content of the stuff is only a about 5%. Well, st least it's got just a bottle of alcohol and kerosene.

I had an injector stick shut a few months back, causing a bit of difficulty. A little fiddling freed the pintle valve, and the injector is now back in the car, working fine. Still, the ordeal was a PITA and I'm willing to consider the possibility that snake oil like this just might help prevent a recurrence. We'll see!

The local BL was out for a while, but is well stocked as of late April.

CORRECTION, the MSDS lists "1%~5%" amines. It's little more than filler.

I expected more from Shell. This will learn me!

I tried Red Line SL-1 Fuel System cleaner last week for the first time and I have to say it is the very best fuel cleaning product I have ever used. It has a very high PEA content. You can smell it when you open the bottle.

I ran a bottle of the 18 oz size in my car. Don't know if it did anything though since I've ran 3.5 (not counting this one) bottles of fuel system cleaners through it in the year and few months I've had it. I have 7 bottles left and plan on using it at small doses at each fill up until it's gone. Might give a bottle to someone who hasn't put anything through the fuel system in a long time to see if they notice a difference.

No. You are better off using the cheap Gumout version for price since both are basically kerosene. 1-5% cleaning agent is quite horrible...and I highly doubt its a full whopping 5% in each bottle.

thanks for the response guess I wont buy this and just stick with MMO.

hai all, this V Power stuff in my country for 1 bottle is more expensive than S1, i see the msds and for 5%pea i go with S1.
enoch

I used 1/3 the bottle of V-Power which treats 10 Gallons in my 05 Corolla. V-Power was mixed with 4 oz of MMO in 10 Gallons of Sunoco gas. I'm noticing rough idle, knocking, engine has been noticeably louder accelerating for about 1 week.

Anyone else notice this with V-Power additive?

With what you are doing, you can't make any judgments about V-Power. You have no idea if it is reacting with the MMO.

How many miles do you have on your vehicle, if you have a fuel filter, when was the last time it was changed.

How long have you been using MMO in the gas.

You might also check to make sure you do not have any vacuum leaks.

I've been using MMO in my last 5 tanks. I'm going to wait another week or finish off this tank of gas before I pass judgment. This is perhaps an isolated incident.
