I coming up on my first oil change on my 04 duramax diesel and I would like to know more about the two oil mentioned. The reason I am leaning towards these oils are because they are both readily avalible in my location. I also plan to switch over to synthetic after 10K miles. I'd really appreciate the knowledgeable experts to shed some light on this topic. I tried to find a virgin oil analisis on the two, but I couldn't.
Also, I think I just read that they are starting to add moly to the delo 400...is this true?

thanx

Here is my take on this based on my own personal experience, Rotella works good in cold weather, Delo 400 and Delvac Super and MX work great in hot weather and engines which tend to run hot, I have seen Delvac Super followed by Delo 400 holding up the best in 50c conditions.

I would use Delo 400 or Delvac 1300 (It has Moly) as both run longer mileage and have had a lower consumption rate in my trucks than Rotella.

I thought the 6.0 PSD was supposed to use 10w30?

The 1300 acording to my analysis only has about 27 ppm of moly.. is that a lot?

The 6.0 psd recommends 10w30 for normal driving but 15w40 for severe or tow/haul duty.

Besides, he's got the Duramax not the International 6.0.

Having seen comparison UOA's between Delvac 1300S and Delvac 1, I am sticking to 1300. Love my $20 oil and filter changes. Delvac 1 not worth $30 a gallon for 7.5K OCI.

I have used both brands quite extensively, and I think they are both great oils. Sort of like comparing brunettes to blondes- which is better?
