I have a Craftsman air compressor and it's time to change the oil. I bought a quart of Amsoil compressor oil some time ago (long). Compressor uses one pint. Is the one pint remaining in the unsealed, but capped bottle OK to use? It may be more than five years old.
thx in advance, I know there are Amsoil experts and I would appreciate their advice.
Joe

Try pouring it into a clean container and watch the fluid conditions(glass jar is okay), if it's clean without weird looking color and/or debris then it's good to use.

Hi Motor:
Actually the oil presently in the compressor is the pint that is gone from the original quart. Had no issues with the Amsoil compressor oil. Compressor sits in attached garage, tho at the outside wall. Starts fine in coldest weather. I'd hate to toss it out if it's still OK.

In reality, as long as the oil pours OK, doesn't smell off or otherwise look weird, I would use it.

Hi Pablo:
Good to hear from an Amsoil expert. Bottle was tightly capped. Doesn't smell funky. Name on bottle:
"Amsoil Synthetic Reciprocating Oil". No part number or date code that I could find.

Check for settled add pack @ bottom. I have the same oil partially opened for a few years. I shake it from time to time.

I think all advice here is valid. If it's at all questionable toss it. I have been using that same oil in my 5hp Craftsman air compressor for 16 years. It loves the stuff.
I change it at a year most of the time. Sometimes I have gone 2 years. So I have a half full bottle like you. 1/2 qt in the compressor, and 1/2 qt waiting to go in the compressor the next year.

I have never changed the oil in my Craftsman air compressor since it was new in 1979. 2.5HP model - still runs like new in my garage. I bought a spare can of oil for it back then - still unopened. I suppose I should use it before it goes bad.
