Seeing more VW Micro Busses

They are too expensive to buy at £60,000 in the UK and that's reflected in the sales numbers. It's VW's slowest selling model which is perhaps why my son was able to get one on a surprisingly cheap lease deal. He didn't go looking for one but it was too a good deal to turn down.. His is a standard wheel base 5 seater and it has the biggest book I've ever seen 1211 litres or 42.7 cuft.

Good friend and I were talking at church about this very thing. Offer BOTH the gas and electric versions. Price them reasonably and see which one outsells the other 10 to 1. I'd take a gas burner. In yellow please.
At 40-45K with a small 1.4 turbo and a 20 gal fuel tank they couldn't keep them on the lot. As it is now even a blue light special is not going to move them.

And it would be incredibly easy for VW to do that. There is quite a bit of room up front for an ICE. Of course, getting a gas version would take until the next ice (no pun 😁) age to get certified at the speed they move dealing with anything related to the Buzzkill.

Circa 1967. I know the big window hippie vans were better, but there is something special about the 1st gen.

I had a 73 and loved almost every minute of the experience. It was well-worn when I had it. So very cool. It’s life ended too soon as a carbeque.

220 miles may seem short, but it is pushing a brick through the air, not nearly as sleek as a sedan. For the way my family used minivans at 73 miles per day ferrying 3 kids around, this would do it *well.*

I had a ‘72 that I bought for $100 in the early 2000’s.

If you opened the sliding door it would fall right off. I never had it on the road but did drive it around my parent’s circular driveway a bunch one night….it spit out a giant cloud of blue smoke all the way around.

I later sold it for $400.

My friend owned several and one year we put 6 of us in it and drove from Victoria to Banff. Quite an adventure - had to take it slow through the mountains.

The new ones look great but are too expensive.

Some people just do not get it! The Europeans have the EU jackboot on their necks and are being forced in going EV even though the vast majority want nothing to do with them. Americans overwhelmingly rejected the EV and green agenda. It is time to dump this experiment into the trash can of history just like was done in the early 20th century. JMO

Yet there's some of us that love them and would not buy anything else going forward. To each their own.

I've still yet to see one on the road, but I did notice my local dealer has a couple in stock. Unfortunately they're solid white and just lack the appeal the bright two tone offers.

The growth of EV sales in Europe is slowing and all the car manufacturers that fell over themselves to announce the end of ICE sales way before the target date are now doing a U turn and announcing that ICE engines will be available for longer. There's some small signs that the politicians will be bit more flexible on EV targets and lots of other net zero targets too but only because they have no choice. Most people support emission reductions in principle but are annoyed with idiot politicians setting totally unrealistic targets including punitive fines on the car manufacturers that don't meet their EV quota. They are also increasingly annoyed that net zero is damaging the economy.

Whenever a politician tries to prescribe the route from A to B they stuff up big time. They should have defined B and then left it to the manufacturers to decide how to get there.

The same in many ways? Pretty much 1 way, the paint. They are over priced (not a vehicle for all people), limited range, overly complex, not utilitarian at all, not serviceable by the owner......
What's weird is that if you want the seven seat configuration it's rwd only. Why? Two I had to look up actual NHTSA crash rules but the USA won't get the nifty fold-down trays in the driver and passenger seat backs to allow passengers to use them for food, laptops etc. Apparently only the USA considers them dangerous as they have to be "certified ".

Porsche has said this week that several ev models are now cancelled, and the Cayman is coming back with new gas engines.

Yeah, this is happening among most automakers. Also the commitment to go all electric has been pretty much cancelled by anyone saying they were going all electric. Gasoline isnt going anywhere and honestly it's all good with a level playing field now.
Choices are good both EV and Gas they BOTH will serve people well. No more government intervention forcing something for no reason at all.
