It's so funny and it happens every year.... majority of accidents on slick roads are usually SUV's and pickup trucks..... maybe over-confidence? I was reading today's paper and they had four seperate accidents on one highway that day... all of them were SUVs and pickup trucks....

Message to SUV and Pickup truck drivers: Your vehicles are not invincible.

^^ Yeah but many SUV drivers don't know that. THey think their four wheel drive, ABS, Stability control system will save them 100%.

SUV drivers think they can drive like stink with bald tires because it's AN SUV!! Winter ice/snow tires are relevant, not the type of automobile!!

people that spend their entire lives in the northeast, you'd think they KNOW that it snows every year. don't they get used to this sort of thing?

When I lived on Long Island most accidents involved SUV's and 4x4's. People think because they're in an SUV or a 4x4 they can drive the speed limit or beyond in bad weather. They often learn the hard way that 4WD doesn't help much on black ice. Sad part is people driving responsibly sometimes get involved and hurt because someone else was stupid.

Sometimes, snow isn't required.

Dad watched a car lose it on a frost covered interstate overpass this morning, and slam into the inner wall of the overpass.

He said it was an "explosion of broken plastic" when the front end hit that concrete wall.

Stuff like this is why I think we should drastically lower the minimum GVWR that requires a CDL to drive on public roads.

People who don't use those vehicles for their intended purpose have no idea how to drive them. They don't feel any wheel slippage when they hit the gas, so they just drive like the road is dry and have no idea they can't stop or turn until it's too late.

Pickup tend to be poor in winter conditions 4x4 or not unless owners add proper weight to the truck bed.

SUV's tend to flip or crash more dramatically by nature and make much more interestingly stories.

There is some negative view on SUV's and when they are vulnerable certain people including press notice them. Plenty of cars go off the road here to but less dramatic.

Well i tell everyone all the time including my family that you may have 4 wheel drive unfortunatly you don't always have 4 wheel stop as the statistics have shown..

Well at least a special license and training will teach them a thing or two about what's at stake and how to drive sensibly. That's a step up IMO.

It is amazing, I see more pickups and rwd luxury cars in the ditch than anything else.

It's a game of automakers creating new safety features or vehicles with better snow traction, and idiots driving worse to compensate.

When I drive during inclement weather, there is a long line of people that follow me on a double divided highway. Occasionally a schmoe will blaze past me in a truck or another SUV and sometimes a minivan, and I will watch them slide into the ditch or spin out of control 100ft or so ahead. These people don't know how to drive. Number one rule...slow down, you can't possibly go the same speed as when its dry. I have been driving for 25+ years, good tires, slow down are the main items to get you through.

Well everybody has 4-wheel stop, that's the problem

My mom had the same failed logic: Assuming that because she had more go, she had more whoa.

The look on her face after she understood that the brakes functioned in the same manner regardless and that they didn't work BETTER with 4x4 enabled was priceless.

I do too. This winter, I will actually keep track.. I want to possibly install a video camera for proof.

As somebody who loves using (and knows HOW to use) 4x4 in the winter, just like every year, I'm going to have a blast!

Hopefully the LTX's will be on soon!
