Which 16-year-old dreams of driving a Maybach? Granted, he's not even allowed to drive yet, so it's more for his escort to drive...

I've heard of far more extravagant gifts and parties thrown by the rich. Happens quite often.

x2. if i somehow have that kind of income when my son becomes of age to drive, he too will be driving an astronomically expensive car
i had a 20 year old $400 car when i was 16. its what my parents could afford. obviously this kids parents bought him what they could afford

Did you expect anything different? Rich yes brains well listen to him talk and you decide..
My daughter is getting something under $23,000
I would never buy anything that someone will put a gun to your head to steal it.. Even with a carry permit and a heater in your belt clip things could get bad real fast..

I learn to drive my Dad's 1952 Dodge pickup, he got it used in 1960 to use at the store. flat 6, 3speed on the column, starter switch above the accelerator, I miss that old truck to this day.

That Maybach does not look NEW to me. Look at the tire wear and dirt in the wheel wells!

Yes I would not want my kid in a car like that because of the dangers mentioned by crazyoildude. Maybe a new Buick for the kid and call it good.

I bought my Daughter's car used with a bad engine. We installed a junkyard engine and did some maintenance on it to keep reliable. She did not start driving her own car till she was 17.5 years. She is still driving it and will be turning 25 this November.

I kind of thought I was spoiling her...........

you guys really dont think there will an "entourage" with him at all times??? i think safety is the least of his worries

crinkles, that's the real life for him. His dad, on the other hand, is a self made guy and knows what real life is and probably doesn't want his kid going through it.

Then you can't buy anything. Someone would be willing to put a gun to your head to steal it for anything that can be sold (which obviously it can be since you bought it).

All these haters... Jeez.

The kid was very gracious and courteous and took it all very well. Frankly, I'm surprised. I can't fault him for having a rich father and it would be silly for his father to give him a '92 ford or something like that.

I'm not jealous at all, it's a nice car and I hope the kid enjoys it in good health. It looks like he's on the road to becoming a stand-up young man.

I don't see anything particularly wrong in this case. This kid is used to the millionaire lifestyle already, so I don't think a Maybach is going to cause him to miss any life lessons he hasn't bypassed already. And he had the right attitude about it: "I'm so blessed and thankful for all of this." How often do other kids on that Sweet 16 show say that? Remember the video of the girl who threw a tantrum when her mom gave her a new Lexus?

This is P Diddy's son. It's not reasonable to expect a millionaire rapper to buy his son a 2000 Taurus, or even a new Civic. At least he got him a sedan instead of some sports car.

That's what I was thinking...that car's wheel wells are about like the ones on my truck.

Well, if he didn't get into an accident I'm all for it, someone has to stimulate the economy by wasting their money and feed all the people in the manufacturing, engineering, marketing, advertising, sales, etc.

Beside, the check his dad gave him is donated to charity, so at least it is not that ridiculous.

While I find the slang "haters" ridiculous, it probably fits this thread pretty well :)

I see a lot of jealousy in this thread. True, kids should learn the meaning of an honest day's work, and a HARD day's work... but that said, this kid likely never saw it and likely will never see it. It will take a few generations for there to be an opportunity for a kid in this line to need to do a hard day's work.

There is a difference, Ive found, between "rich" folks who have earned it, and "rich" folks who just got it. But that is not really a conversation I am going to make here. The reality is that in this situation, the kid would undoubtedly be in the lap of luxury for his life regardless, and so long as he didn't screw it up bad via one of the usual means, would have been set up well no matter what.

I agree that it is a funny choice for a car, but perhaps dad thought that big and safe was best, vice getting junior a ferrari or lamborghini as the first car?

If P Diddy bought his son a Buick it would be more newsworthy then the Maybach!
