Schaeffer's 7000 vs. 9000???

Why was buying the Schaeffers 9000 a waste of money? Because they have Group III basestocks as a component vs. full PAO or group IV/V? I always thought that the performance of the final product was a better measuring stick of an oil's quality. So far I have yet to read on this board where Schaeffers was less than excellent and the price still where one can afford to use it! As far as Schaeffers being jerks to deal with, in what way?

Schaeffer is an easy Company to work for. They have their rules and they don't deviate. That is why you rarely ever hear of a bad sales person in their Company. You will not find any renegade sales persons at Schaeffers like you do in one unbridled companies sales personnel.

As BMWtechguy said, how is it you wasted your money? You bought a product that performs just as good, if not better, than the stuff you mentioned.

boxcartommie,

I've called Schaeffer's corporate offices a few times and have never had a bad experience with them. The only thing that I can say is that their 'tech service' people at corporate seem less knowlegeable than their actual sales reps out in the field. I've tried all top of the line oils under the sun and have had a UOA done on all of them. Going further, I've also looked at a ton of UOA's and I feel that the ENTIRE Schaeffer's product line is top of the heap.

My cousin just purchased a big rig with a Caterpillar diesel engine and he asked me "if it was your truck what oil would you put in it?".......my response was Schaeffer's.

yes you all are prob. correct about our distributor here he prob. was hard to work with....i believe schaeffers is a perfectionist company but when i found out that there full( so called)diesel synthetic oil was only a group three which is cheap to produce..i got alittle upset..i actually feel they are using the court ruling about a synthetic may be a group 3 and not a true synthetic...i will stick with my delvac 1 5w40 and sell the schaeffers..

Approximately 6 years ago schaeffers told the sales force that schaeffers would not be using Group III base stocks because they had not proven themselves in the field. There were issues with additive solubility, oxidation stability, and fluidity.
After five years of of additional development in the refining process and enhancements to their quality, schaeffer mfg. has found a group III base oil supplier that will provide value added performance in our engine oils. The type of gIII base fluids used in the formation of 9000, unlike other G III , are derived from a single feedstock and are produced through the use of a unique patented process.
This process produces a highly saturated (99%) feedstock that has many highly desirable characteristics such as a high viscosity index (~126 to 135), high temp viscometrics, low volitility, therml and oxidation stability, purity and a uniform molecular structure.
The PAO's used in the formulation of 9000 are derived from a clearly defined proprietary processing technology.
The extremely high saturate content of the III/pao syn mix provides excellent miscibility and response.
The base oil combo used is extremely low sulfur and aromatic content and already meets/exceeds low sulfur content for the PC-10 classification.

The high saturate content of 9000 base stock has been found to enhance the friction modifiers such as micron moly and penetro.

boxcartommie22,

If Basestock A is cheap to produce and Basesstock B is more expensive and both basesstocks have there pro's and cons but are technicly equal in performance characteristics would it not make sense to take advantage of the strengths of each to compliment the other?

If I lived near by I would rescue those two gallons from you since you don't seem to appreciate the formulation.

Sales rep ,,,YEA,,, well said..the adds relate to the base stock very well to produce a finished lubricant that is either in a semi, or full synt.,,,the g-3 used in Schaeffers from worth mentioning is some what different to other common g-3 oils ,and PAO,s,link really well to the package i general,,,so IM told,,,BL

I have found Schaeffer's service and products to be as good as any company on the planet. My last order was delivered in less than 24 hours after ordering. To be fair I do live about 40 miles from their factory. I've received honest and straight forward answers to my questions. I've used the 7000 for years with oil analysis. I'm NOT changing!

I love Schaeffer's Moly #132 additive in my older classic cars.

What would you recommend for late 60's muscle cars? 7000 or do you have something else? Not really sure that I want to go syn.

I am going to stick with what I currently use but will keep adding the #132. Great stuff...
