Schaeffer oils

IIRC the starburst symbol is for energy-conservation rated oils, those usually xW-30 weight or lower. If you look at a bottle of 10w-40, 20w-50, etcetera, you won't see a star-burst.

As far as the API rating, I would presume they have their Spark and Compression ratings noted either on the container or on their web site.

The case of Schaeffer 5W20 quarts I purchased a couple months ago had the Starburst symbol on the front of each bottle.

So then they are API certified? As opposed to Amsoil and Redline who are not?

I have a quart of Supreme 7000 10W30 #703 in front of me. It has the starburst and is API Service SM 10W30 Energy Conserving. Outside of the official ratings, it states that it exceeds API sequence test SM and ILSAC GF-4; exceeds Ford, GM, Chrysler, All Foreign manufacturing specs.
Is there a particular spec that you are looking for? If so, I don't see any others on here.

Supreme 7000 SAE 5w30 meets and exceeds the following specifications and manufacturers’ requirements: MIL-PRF-46152E, CID A-A-52039B, API Service Classification SM, Energy Conserving, ILSAC GF-4, Ford WSS-M2C929-A,General Motors 6049M, General Motors 998231, Daimler Chrysler MS-6395M,MS-6395L, Daimler Chrysler MB 229.3, ACEA A1-02, ACEA A5-02, JIS K 2202,Volkswagen 502.00.

My question was in regards to whether or not they were API certified. IIRC, companies like Amsoil do not pay for their products to be certified. Do I have that right?

I have a quart of AMSOIL MTF in front of me. It says SAE 75W-90 API GL-4 on the bottle. Are you saying that they did not pay for this rating? I'm not sure that I understand your question. Are you asking if you have the right to pay for a API rating?

The following are all API licensed.
100, 106, 107,110,151,191,306,700,701,702,703,704,705,750.
The 9000 series either has been or is enroute.

I believe that Amsoil has a XL series of gas engine oils that are API licensed, but their premium line is not, that I can see on the bottles here. I also have used their blend 15w40 diesel oil in the past, and I believe that it was licensed as well, but that was not why I tried it at the time. Licensing is not that big a deal for me, as it only represents that the product meets the minimum standards for the spec that it is licensed for.

I am going to Schaeffer oil and gear lubes a try. A old
towboat pilot was very impressed with Schaeffer oils. Those
towboat diesels are running all the time 24-7. Only shut
down for maintenance. Also a river dredg mechanic had a lot
of good to say about Schaeffers. he said it reduced down
time. Its worth a try.

I use schaeffers oil and grease products in my cars, trucks, and equipment. The only complaint is there syn.gear oil I used in my 2004 dodge differentials,I had gear chatter to beat the band.I changed back to amsoil severe gear diff.fluid and lost the chatter.
