I was sitting at an intersection that has two left turn lanes, two straight lanes, and a right turn lane. I was in a straight lane, second in line behind a cop. The lights for the left turn lanes turned green, and the cop starts driving forward into the intersection. He made it half way through before apparently noticing the cars turning left from the opposite direction. He stops, and rather than backing up (I didn't pull up at all), he turns on his light bar and guns it through the intersection. After making it through the intersection and going down the road a little, he cut his lights off again. Anyone else would have got a ticket for that...I guess a badge has its perks.

Seen it a couple of times here as well. They approach a traffic light, then run Code 2 or 3 all of a sudden before driving normally again.

Was in a neighbour's car when I was around 16...he was/is a cop.

Driving through town, and he said "watch this", and drove straight through a very red light.

Cop on a bike took pursuit, and pulled alongside, gesturing him to pull over.

Neighbour flashed his badge, the bike cop waved and powered off.

Made a BIG impression on a 16 year old.

Sorry, off topic.

Cops in philly run reds all night long. They do not even put there light on. They just treat all lights like stop signs.

where i used to live it was so dodgy when it is past 10 PM on any given night you only marginally slow down at red lights, you only stop if someone is going to be in your way

Add this to the fact that a cop's word is more sacred than ours in a court of law.
Makes me also wonder why so many drug busts end up with only 1/2 the material by the time the evidence is brought to court.

I'm not too impressed with law enforcement driving as a whole.
Last summer we had an incident where 2 city cops were speeding through town on city streets, responding to a call.in the process, a car was almost hit crossing an intersection by one of the speeding cops.

An incident on wednesday afternoon, a female cop just washed the cop car she was driving. Afterwards she's seen driving down city streets, weaving back and forth in other driving lanes. Now If I was to do something like that, I'd be immediately pulled over.

Total [censored]! Not sure whats goin on lately, whether driver training is suffering in police department training or is it,they just dont care anymore?

Cops who think they are above the law..
It's no wonder why people hate cops.

I've known a couple who were good people and truly did their part to be a pillar upholding society. I've known plenty who were so crooked they should have been politicians. On the whole, I think the majority didn't have any friends in grade school and now they want to show everybody they're the big man with the gun. Or, they're the big man who can run red lights and not get caught. Or, they're the big man who can ticket you for going 2 miles over the speed limit. I'm not impressed.

When i was a cop, i ran red lights. There, i admit it! Why? Didn't feel like being a target for stuff flung off apartment roofs or windows while waiting for a green light. Here is a list of things that have been flung at cops in my former employers jurisdiction:
-refrigerator (cop forced to retire on first day on the street due to injury) -roof hatch
-filled litre of soda
-filled spackle bucket (cop killed)
I've personally had eggs, pennies and soda bottles thrown at me. Only the pennies got me and yes they hurt.
Admittedly some of these things were thrown while on foot but i wasn't waiting a light to see what would come my way next.

It depends on the organization. Lots has changed over the years. My BIL worked just outside of Philly in Lower Marion. This is like Stamford or, perhaps, Beverly Hills in the wealth concentration. He crossed paths with another cop and they sat for a few minutes window to window just talking. At the end of shift, or the next day maybe, his Sargent was asking him what they were doing. If he ran red lights without a purpose, he'd be questioned about it.

And then??????? So, he made a human mistake???????? You have proven what?????

We can't all be perfect like you and the rest of society...

I see cops do that all the time. Not nearly as shameful as tasering people to death 5 times while theyre being restrained, or tasering small children, or tasering mothers who are not resisting. Or raping drunk girls and getting busted on camera. Or slamming teenage girls against walls and punching them in the face..... FTP

Because ALL police do that.

Just remember your words if you ever need the presence of a cop...

There ARE bad cops, who tarnish the reputation of the good. The evening news does not care about Joe avg. cop that went to work and served the community today. There are bullies and jackasses on the police force, just like in every other profession.
