Sad fact

If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq Theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.

The firearms death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000.

That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington D.C.

A young man had a better chance of surviving a 4-year tour of duty in Vietnam than he has seeing his 25th birthday in Detroit. We should also pull out of Detroit.

Yeah, but doesn't it make you FEEL better for having those laws on the books?

I think we did. In about 1970.

A census story was in the paper today. Michigan and Rhode Island were the only states in the Union with a net loss in population this past year.

I know that a month in Iraq seems like month in the US, but that's not how statistics work.

Try again.

The US troop death rate in Iraq is chump change compared to all the Iraqi citizens that have been killed and massacred in the last few years. Also, despite what FOX NEWS would have you to be believe, there are troops from all over the world fighting in Iraq and losing their lives as well. (My friend who is on his second tour now, says the Macedonians are hardcore.)

Add that to the stats and DC won't look so bad.

Cut to the facts - have you actually seen the stats of troop deaths of other combatants?

And this "raped, pillaged, and massacred in the last few years" statement - have the stats on that?

I'd like to see the links on these.

Those are documented deaths. Estimates are double to triple that.

I don't know the foreign soldier death count.

I think you missed my point, Pablo. Iraq is certainly a worse place to be than Washington DC.

I change the raped and pillaged statement. I didn't mean it literally, but I guess that's how you took it.

Iraq War Casualties

Documented Civilian Deaths - 80,000 to 87,000

Documented US Armed Forces Deaths - 3901

Documented UK Deaths - 174

Documented Other Coalition Member Deaths - 133

US troops are really taking a number... I worry about my friends who are over there all the time. But we can't forget all those civilians who are caught up in this mess.

Oh no, I wasn't being anti-war. Of course, we were responsible for many of those deaths, it's unavoidable in urban warfare, but the overwhelming majority was due to paramilitary activity and Sunni vs Shiite hostility.

Anyway, I'd rather live in a DC or Detroit ghetto than ANYWHERE in Iraq.

Since we can see by the original posts that Washington D.C. is a more dangerous and worse place to live than Iraq, it opens up a great solution to the costly war in Iraq. Considering that Washington D.C.s death rate is 971 people per 100,000 but the whole state of Mississippi is a staggering 1,026 per 100,000 people

we could send or divert as many terrorists, insurgents and jihadists to the state of Mississippi, close off its borders like some sort of "Roach Motel" and our terrorist enemies will likely die at a higher rate than waging the War in Iraq virtually for FREE. Just by having them live their day to day lives in Mississippi.

This way we can save the harm to our military and the billions of dollars American tax payers pay each month, funded much in the form of debt(can you say sinking $dollar$?) by such places as communist China.

By the way, isn't nice to see that the Humor section(this post has nothing to do with humor) is the place for BITOG to continue its alternative right wing agenda? How many days has this post stayed open with its right-wing tilt? Now that its right-wing political tilt is being challenged how much longer do you think it will stay open?

Wow, we left wingers are touchy. As a proud left winger I must say that the "slant" does not bother me. People seems more interested in supporting their side than seeking the truth everywhere you go. However, the sad truth is that there are people who actually think that serving in Iraq is saving than living in a US inner-city. I live in the "wrong" place in my town and I would definitely rather be here than in Iraq. My heart goes out to the people in Iraq who simply want to be able to live and raise families (as I believe 95% of people do), but cannot because of some nut jobs. My heart also goes out to all of our service men and women for a difficult and undesirable job. My they come home safely.

PS- Fellow left wingers, relax and enjoy the discussions on an overall well-controlled and open board.
