For the cotten-gauze style filters, in addition to the K&N and Accel Cool Blue, there's S&B. What is the opinions of the experts here on the S&B filters, compared to K&N or Accel?

S&B seems to be a "stealth" manufacturer, in that they seem to not have a web site, impossible to contact, and are only distributed by a very few (expensive boutique) places.

I've been running K&Ns on my 88 IROC Camaro for *years* and the inside of the throttle body and MAF are clean, no dust or other crap, so they seem to be doing the job for me. I was referred to S&B by the Ford Escort forum, because they said the K&N panel filter for Escorts doesn't fit right and it falls down inside the air box. I bought an S&B from an online boutique supplier, it fits and seems to be doing a good job, so far. It was also nice to see that the S&B was a couple bucks *less* than the K&N. I'll take a look at the throttle body and MAF after a few months to keep an eye on things. I have heard that S&B uses a thicker filter media than K&N.

If S&B is highly regarded, does anyone know of a online distributor that has a good selection of their stuff? I'm looking for another panel filter for the T-Bird.

All opinions welcome, thanks.

Yo, Tremo! Just so you don't think folks are ignoring your post, I'd guess that most people are simply unfamiliar with S&B filters. The K&Ns seem absurdly porous, based on various observations and anecdotes, so a slightly thicker media (if this is what S&B has) could only help filtration a bit. But then, one will probably lose some flow by going thicker, so in the end they'd probably be better off just sticking with good ol' fashioned paper.

SB filters are the best cotton gauze filters I've sen. No gimmicks, just really thick media.

That's the only online place I know of to buy them currently.

Thanks Drew, but all Intense has is cone and round filters. I need panel filters. I know S&B makes them because the Escort boutique carries them, but only in Escort sized. I want one for a T-Bird!!!

I've been using K&N in my Camaro for YEARS. I've recently seen the ads for the Accel Cool Blue in the Summit catalog (they carry K&N as well). The S&B in the wife's Escort is as well made, if not better than the K&N's in my Camaro.

Somebody has gotta be carrying their products!! Else they'll go out of business. They need a web site something fierce.

Tremo:

If it were me, I'd email John at intenseperformance and ask him about the OE style filters.

If he can't get it, he knows who can. he's a way cool guy.

I have the S&B power stack filter on my Dakota's CAI and it works great.

I live in the high desert in So Cal, so I know a thing or two(or three!) about dust.

I have 2 filters that I rotate every 5,000-7,000 miles. Even in the dustiest of conditions, my intake never has any dirt of film.

I also am using a S&B cone filter in my CAI on my 99 GTP. It's been on there for about 5-6000 miles with no problems and I did take my CAI off to check and see if it's letting any dirt through but it was very clean

I have an S&B on my 95 Explorer because it perfectly fits inside the factory intake which had a cone filter from Ford. However the S&B also has an inner cone at the nose which really helps the Explorer as it faces the intake tube at the end of the housing. It works fine, just lightly re-oil every few months as they dry out from all the air flow.
