For you fellow Rush-ians, they have decided to continue their Snakes & Arrows tour because it had been so successful. I must say, the concert in Dallas this past August was simply amazing. They will start rehearsing in March and plan to hit venues that they use to hit earlier in their career. From what I just read, they will be playing in Oklahoma City (I'm so THERE), Austin TX, New Orleans, etc. etc. Check their website for exact details.

Hmm...when I saw the title of this thread I thought about Rush Limbaugh and wondered where he'd been.

They're going to have a re-vamped set list! I hope they throw in something like Marathon or Turn The Page.

Can't wait for the boot leg audio to show up! I have the tour opener from Atlanta (was supposed to be Nashville until they closed the outdoor venue down here. arggrrhh!). Very cool to 'be' there even though I couldn't make it to the show.

Not yet, thanks for the email tip. But I did get some GOOD seats about ten minutes ago. They are already sold out. Went back and checked after I got mine, and there are NONE left. Wow, sold out in 15 minutes, and this was pre-sale.

WOW! that's amazing how fast those seats sold out!

They're not coming to TN nor to Atlanta. I'll be in Florida twice in the next 4 months, neither time will our paths cross

If they make a DVD of the tour, I'll be the first to buy it.

Saw the concert Saturday night. Best seats I ever had. Right off stage right and I could almost touch Alex when he walked over. Like an idiot, I forgot my earplugs and my ears are still ringing. For you drummers out there, I learned a few things about Neil that I hadn't already known:
He plays bass with his toes instead of the whole foot.
When he speeds/messes up, he gets mad and starts playing harder. You can tell it in his face.
Really favors three cymbals, the bigger ones. One to his left and the two to his immeadiate right, above the ride.
Doesn't really turn his whole body when going down the line. Favors keeping the trunk straight and twisting the upper body.
Takes a lot of water breaks when the lights go off.
Doesn't use a video monitor like Alex and Geddy.
Does use a ear monitor.
Drums are covered prior to show opening but I could see him go back there and fine tune his setup.
He physically counts those hard parts that have a lot of breaks. He'll swing his sticks in together like a orchestra conductor. Doesn't mark time with the hats or click his sticks.
When he throws his sticks way up in the air, he's watching them.
Plays the electronic drums really, really soft.

Hey, I was going to PM you about the show, but you beat me to it by posting here!

Thanks for the info!

He's changed his style a lot by not twisting his whole body. It's more fluid, like a jazz drummer, but just a powerful as a rock drummer.

I often wondered how he counts the odd times w/o murmuring to himself the odd numbers like, say Gina Shock does.

Have you tried placing a 12" tom way up in the air like he does? I find that is quite awkward if one is not in tune to the Freddy Gruber sytle of playing.

Being up close is the only way to go .Last year I saw Lindsay Buchingham I was front row center you could watch the sweat drop to the ground .He is kinda strange but I really like his guitar style and has a nice sound

He doesn't seem to have any problem with fluid motion, no matter where the toms are placed. One thing I did learn from playing all those years was that drum placement can really chill you out. Face it, myself included, a lot of drummers tend to get a little excited when we know some challenging parts are coming up and that equates to rushing the tempo a little bit. By placing my drums further apart, I found that it kept me in check and helped me maintain tempo. Neil just seemed to be at peace with all the toms and the "spread." Like I said earlier, he tends to play a lot harder when he messes up. Doesn't happen often, but I think he's such a perfectionist, he gets down on himself. I've done it.
Did see his tour bus and the huge trailer behind it parked outside the Ford Center. Hate to say this, but if he ever starts "goes" totally green environmental, I'm going to have to bust him out. He doesn't ride with the rest of the band, rides that big arshe tour bus and pulls his motorcycles behind him. A lot of times he'll right his bike to the gig and meet his tour bus there..........pretty wasteful if you ask me. I respect Neil for his playing ability, but I sometimes think he has a messed up attitude to his fans. Without us, he'd be nothing but a wannabe drummer.

I love Rush and have all their CD's, but I'm not impressed with their latest recordings. TFE was good. I think their creative juice has come to an end.

The only criticism I have of Neil is he that he sounds like a machine too often. However, that is kind of his forte. I wouldn't want to hear any other drummer in Rush. Dave Weckyl is the same. I would love to hear Dave play another style instead of that elevator Jazz music.

I heard Neil trashed the Rush tribute CD called "Working Man". I remember Portnoy being upset with his comments that it sounded like a bar band. LOL.

I saw Dream Theater last October. The most technical rock band I have ever seen. They were tight. Portnoy is awesome.

I saw them here in Atlanta last year for the first show of the Snakes and Arrows tour. Judging by the dates they have publicized so far, Atlanta will be the last date of the tour, as well. Pretty huge for me.
