RS-R in the pursuit to improve the efficiency of engine performance has shifted from exhaust development to overall engine performance. In the effort to achieve this feat, the reduction of frictional resistance has produced the Ran Up Oil Optimizer.

Developed from a powder based lubricant used in aerospace technology, these specially engineered nano spheres mixed with specially formulated oil, when properly cycled through the engine reduces friction on the engine's moving components. As a result, the engine components are able to move more freely allowing for better pick up. This reduction of stress on the engine optimizes horsepower and fuel efficiency

Any one want to take a guess at what this powdery lubricant is? Moly? Looks like milk from the pictures

Could be anything, I doubt it being molly... maybe titanium disulphide which would be a dead ringer for dry powder

A couple of years ago, I tried a ceramic additive, looking very similar to this(No, it wasn't Cermax or Cermet).

Hi Everyone,

New member here, but I've visited the forum often to try and gain some in site on the best oils and additives. Still confused!!!

Last year, I saw the orig. write up about the RS-R RanUp Japanese additive in Import Tuner Magazine, like many, and became very intrigued but the additive has never been released to the U.S. http://www.importtuner.com/tech/impp_1012_rs_r_ran_up_engine_oil_additive/index.html

I spoke to a rep. there at the time and he gave me some reason; I think is was import problems ect. but can't remember. So its almost 8mo. later and still no product release date and with a website that is marginal but this company is supposed to be big in [censored]. and in the race circuit.

I can only wonder if this is some sort of a marketing tactic and they're building such eagerness and curiosity with the magazine articles in attempts to get an idea of how much to import and to get everyone excited about it to get their hands on the stuff due to its unavailability here in the U.S!
wink.gif

I've been curious if anyone here did any write ups about it, but the search engine here didn't list any posts but I did find this Forum Post on a general web search with many other newer articles and forum links. I hope I can post all of these links as a new member so others can also be informed about this stuff.........

New updated article from Import Tuner 4/2011:

Here are some other Forums talking about it:

Check out Post #4 on this forum as this guy compares the RS-R Ranup to "powder lubricants in Formula 1 engines"....
http://www.preludeonline.com/f60/rsr-ran-up-261737/

So I did a Google and came across this site. Not sure if its a serious company that has a serious professional trade looking website or a scamster trying to look legit with this industrial looking site! Anyone know this company or their powdered oil additives?

Well, I just wanted to put this out there and hopefully someone like the one veteran member here that I see who posts very intelligently, "Molukule", can give us some thoughts on it.

Regards to all,

Chris

Please note again in the end of the Article from Octane Report 5-20-11:
http://octanereport.com/tech/parts-revie...4690#imggallery

They state the MSRP is between $50 - $100 per bottle and a V8 will need 2 bottles per oil change!!!!!!!!!

This product will definitely have a niche market unless they're hoping for one of the Big Mass Market Additive Players to buy the proprietary formula and distribution rights
wink.gif
...........hopefully it would then be cheaper with the same formulation........

Weird.......the forum "censored" the word "J A P A N" when I said: " this company is supposed to be big in [censored] and in the race circuit." Just want to clarify that.........

"And that's all I have to say about that"

I'd sure like to see these guys on the thread below eventually analyze the RS-R RanUp from a chemical engineers point of view! Especially the member "Gokhan". These guys are some sort of M.I.T. "Nuclear Lubricant Physicists"!!!

Last year when I spoke to RS-R I informed them of this Forum and the experts on it and that I would mention their product at for some discussion.

I'm just afraid that this company "RS-R and their additive Ran-Up" will never release any in depth technical info about what components make up their formula so intelligent discussion and conclusions can be made.

I guess a lot of info is available for these types of conclusions to be made on products like mentioned in the link above other than from a MSDS sheet which can hide proprietary formulas.

Unlike even the "SnakeOil Additive Companies" who tend to blow smoke about their formulas, the Japanese are secretive and proud when it comes to their technology so this maybe a very short lived Thread.

I hope at some point, they'll be willing to tell us "what's in there" like the old Prego Spagetti Sauce Commercial.....

I see what the problem was. You abbreviated "Japan" to the three letter variation, which is commonly used in a non-derogatory manner. However, since saying "BOO!" is found to be offensive by the more sensitive among the membership around here, that is a banned term of reference.

Just so you know...

I'mmmmm baaaaack!

From time to time, I check out the forum on oil and oil additives, but my cars have been so screwed up on other "unsolved mysteries", I can't benefit nor measure or enjoy the benefits of some the intelligently discussed oil's and oil additives on this forum in my cars til I get them straightened out if ever!

There was one additive that has a "suspiciously lousy marketing campaign" but is quietly entering and targeting a very narrow market in the Import Race Teams.

The Japanese performance oil additive is finally available for U.S. Distribution and I'd like to know the back story from these guys why it took so long........maybe they deliberately created hype initially through some magazine testing articles and wanted to see how much interest and feedback they got before bringing the product in officially. Maybe it was Tsunami related, but I'm sure there was probably more to it. Even their web-site was very basic over these past few years and now has more content but its just too vague and does not offer the technical jargon that would interest the experts on this forum so there's very little to discuss and I've not seen really anything on this forum about it other than in this THREAD.

Here's RS-R's website: http://www.rs-r.com/ran-up.php

When I first inquired about the product after seeing an article in one of the import mags. the product manager asked me if I was local in California and said they were offering the product for free along with dyno-test. I see they still have the program on their site and I think some other members on different forums had their cars tested.

Here's some of the limited links I found discussing this additive:

What do you guys think?

I am in touch with a Forensic Testing Lab for a possible coolant problem. These guys are really a high end lab that test oils and coolants. I'd love to have this stuff tested or examined to know what's in it. I'm just not sure if that type of lab would be willing to do it just to know. These guys are heavy duty in analysing and testing for major fluid mfg's. and OEM but they probably don't test for foumula's and contents of different products unless litigation is involved as I know they are expert witnesses in that field. Anyone know these guys?
http://amalgatech.com/

I don't see any lubricant test, but some coolant test are close to $10,000!!!!!!!

Anyway, I have a major problem that is maybe a Ethylene Glycol coolant problem taking out 2 of my water-pumps on my 91 Eldo. within a year on a Delco pump and Cardone. I have discovered many other Cadillac Forum Members are also having failures. We've debated this and I heard from Airtex/ASC that this unique pump and is probably only mfg China by 1 company and is private labeling for everyone or just supplying inferior bearings to everyone in the aftermarket including Delco.

I heard there are experts on this site in the Cooling Section....anyone know who or should I just post a Thread about coolants over there?

As far as the RS-R Ran-Up.............lets start the discussion but I'm sure it will be limited.

Regards,
Chris

On the plus side, at least it's not using straight 50 as a carrier oil. On the other hand, they use a lot of the meaningless buzz words that are used to market plenty of useless additives. They also say that the numbers don't lie, but I don't see any numbers.

From the RS*R website:
Question 15: How long will RAN*UP work? Answer: The benefits last as long as it is in the engine.

At $50 a pop it would be hard to justify using this product even once on a stock engine.

Like I mentioned, I've don't keep up with everyone on the forums extensive knowledge in lubricants and different tests you guys do.

What would it take to analyze this stuff so it can be posted so the lube engineers here can take a look at it since I remember seeing so much discussion on other mainstream oils and their contents discussed.

Who is a good authortiy to analyse these lubricants and how much??????

Glad to see there is any comments on this stuff because I figured it would be a short discussion. Just curious about this stuff since its "very slow" release into the market unlike all of the other snake oils who have extensive and sometimes believable data like the one additive that has references to either Sandia Nat. Lab or Argon Nat. Lab on one of their alleged ingredients.

From what I read and researched when trying to find it for sale after seeing it in the mags. this stuff was always available in Japan for sale prior to the news release here.

Should I forget this stuff and move on to what is highly recommended and most researched by you guys?

In short, is there any consensus of what's the best Oil and additive for a street car recommended by the experts here on the "OIL GUY BOB" Forum!??????.

Thanks Guys,
Chris

Good day
I bought three bottles of Ran Up and added to:
2006 Sienna Limited 3.3L 110,000 miles
2006 Avalon Limited 3.5L 122,500 miles
2013 Scion FR-S 2.0L 1,200 miles
The first 2 have had synthetic Mobil 1(5w30)since brand new (17 miles) for about the first 75K, then we switched to Pennzoil Platinum and now Pennzoil Ultra (5w30). Neither uses oil and the Sienna uses a Filtermagnet and the Avalon uses a Panmagnet.
The FR-S has had 5w30 Pennzoil Ultra since new. Filtermagnet installed since new.
The oil samples from the first 2 are excellent. Tested every 30 K. Oil, oil filter and air filter changed every 5k.
The Sienna with the additive is so quiet you can't hear the engine running, fuel economy is up .7 mpg.
The Avalon with the additive is smoother, much smoother, no fuel readings to report.
The FR-S, which has an intake, exhaust, crank pulley and an ecutek flash, is quiet. At idle there is no vibration and it feels like it revs quicker. Those are big improvements over how it felt and sounded before the additive.
I have no data or dynos to support these claims. Whatever Ran Up is my engines respond to it.

It is moderately likely that one of the secret ingredients is a nano particle of some sort. I believe theses things will revolutionize friction reduction (and a whole bunch of different stuff). There are several in use, but Inorganic Fullerene like Tungsten Disulphide (IF WS2) is the best. Slippery and good substrate adhesion/bonding characteristics.

Spectrum analysis would tell you if any common nano material is used, but not the particle size or structure. X-ray crystallography may give you the structure. I don't happen to have any of those things.

Millers oils has a product that appears to be IF WS2. They won't disclose contents. It is racing oil and $75/L. I saw a response from them that said it is not the nanoparticles that make it expensive and that they will have a consumer/street version available some day.
