everything looked good here cept a couple things:

Shearing, blackstone noted a SAE 20W. Make up oil was only .5qts. Did i just run the oil too long?

Only other thing was high iron, 15ppm, with a universal avg of 8. BL's noted it's ok because iron tracks with miles on oil. . .?

TBN was down to 2.4, anyone know what the TBN is on the virgin oil??

Ummm..where is the report??

10K on oil, 60K on car. IHIvf34 with supporting mods since 25K.

Comments: Most wear metals wore close to universal averages. ONly iron, which tracks with miles on oil was higher. The filter change @ 5K kept insolubles inline. The TBN was 2.4, so only a little additive was left, 1.0 is low. No fuel dillution was present do we don't know why the viscosity shifted to a 20W SAE range other than the added oil. WE did not find any water or anitfreeze in this sample. Silicon was good showing normal air filtration. We think 10K mile interval is all this turbo engine can handle in order to keep wear metals near averages.

The report looks fine despite the shearing. If you are a fan of Royal Purple, you might think about using Royal Purple Racing 41. This version of Royal Purple does not shear.

I don't know if I did the math right ..but I get 9.8CST ..which is a low 30 weight.

cst= 0.226xSUS-(195/SUS)

.226 x 58.3 = 13.1758

195/58.3 = 3.344

13.175 - 3.344 =9.830 CST 30 weight.

You still sheared over one full grade below where you started from.

..but aside from the radical shift in visc ..I don't see a whole lot for Blackstone to be cautioning you about. I'd surely try a different oil in this application

Most would consider your insolubles a little high. This is even with a new filter (as Blackstone comments indicate) @5k.

Yea its still a 30 wt.. Excellent report. Insolubles at .5 show that its about ready to be changed. I would mention that as usual RP sheared back again but I'd be bashed as a RP hater.

Do you need a 40 wt? I'd say that 10w30 Mobil would do fine and hold grade. But can't knock the results.

RP racing oil is a good oil to use in your engine. As far as shearing, the oil recycling plant does not care if it sheared or not, and your engine seemed to respond the same way. Very low wear in this situation. Your oil filter is not a problem. Keep using it if you are comfortable with it.

I"ve noticed a lot of blow by with the 10-30. I"d have to add 2-3 qts on a 8K interval. with 10-40 i'm down to about .5 qts @ 10K.

hondaeater: What oil filter are you using? I'd recommend the OEM filters, preferrably the slightly older "black" ones made by Toyo Roki. The latest filters (made by Purolator) seem to have some issues with leakage at the seams.

Same hondaeater from NASIOC? I run M1 T&SUV in my JDM motor these days. I am waiting for newest results as we speak. The EJ207 motor defilitly liked it I can tell you that.
