Royalty Auto Service cuts open 9-10 oil filters from different brands and product lines, only to find several are identical, and seem genuinely surprised at what they found. They do not claim to be filter experts. This is not an in-depth analysis, but a quick comparison of those they cut open.

They probably wanted a redo video after those WIX filter vids they put out. Good to see any shop actually cutting them open for comparison. That comment though... "I think that WIX owns Mann now" 😄

Intrigued by Hengst. Hengst isn't talked about much here.

I might have used them once many moons ago on a Mercedes.

I looked up the Hengst offerings for me...looks like they're licensing Toyo Roki's design and building them in Turkey. (or Toyo Roki has a Turkey plant for European demand)

Hengst filters are some of the best made out there in terms of quality. They are not talked about at least here in the USA much is because of availability, higher than average cost and also their filtering media efficiency numbers are next to impossible to come by. Best guesses is they seem to follow the Baldwin standard of only making their filters to meet OEM requirements and nothing more.

I can say from personal experience with Hengst is that they cater primarily to the European vehicle market and will have that covered in their catalog offerings pretty well. When it comes to domestic make and models, they have gaps. If they had a catalog cross reference for the FRAM PH10575, that is all I would run.

The one and only time I've used Hengst, it was an air filter for my 2016 BMW 535d. It wouldn't fit. The foam sealing gasket material was too thick and the air filter housing wouldn't close. Had to return it for a Mahle. The Hengst filter looked like it was very well constructed, though.

I have some Hengst here made in Poland. Build quality is impecable. They don't publish any specs that I have found.

They have a plant in Camden SC. Never been in it - no idea what there making there.

Noticed that those filters have an anti-siphon valve in the center tube.
PS - If he would have chose a different filter application without the big threaded spud on the filter (VW style) then he could cut the base off instead of the top.

So they don't even know the proper place to cut open an oil filter, but there telling others what oil filter to buy. Awesome.

I watched the entire thing this am, no real surprises for me. Unsurprised VW/Audi OEM made by Mann Euro, has been for a long time. That Wix and Mann same makes sense, especially with this unique design. He "assumes" the lowest tier MicroGard is same as the Wix and Mann because they look very similar. It is possible, also possible the media is different. I don't understand the Hengst design and it's too expensive anyway. Also Hengst is pronounced H with an "angst" after it'. I though it tad funny his son thought the OEM would be a Premium Guard filter. And yes, odd he chose the one off VW/Audi application.
