Changed anti-freeze in sister's Mercury Tracer yesterday. I switched it to Havoline Dexcool about 4 years ago. This is the first change since then, although I did change the thermostat about 2 years ago, so some of the coolant got renewed.
I was expecting some gunk, even bought a can of radiator flush. When I did it last time, during the change to Dexcool, the old "green" coolant looked extremely nasty! Actually had some viscous rust-colored goo come out. Had to flush it with water many times.
Well, Dexcool came out as clean and clear as new! I was absolutely amazed. The used coolant looked exactly like the fresh mixture I had prepared. This stuff was in use for 4 years and 50k miles!
