Yep the EPA already wants to outlaw diesels, keep smoking and the ban will come.
A properly tuned diesel even a mechanical one shouldn't smoke, just a puff on hard acceleration, and if were talking two strokes maybe a small amount when cold and first started. A modern electronic diesel should pretty much never smoke.
