Rockauto and returning cores

I have complained in the past about RA shipping policies. That they don't provide free shipping if you order above a minimum amount. And charge you shipping costs on a per warehouse basis. So if your items come from two different warehouses then you pay two shipping charges.

So I felt it only appropriate to give them kudos for providing the option of getting a heavy discounted prepaid shipping label to return cores. The calipers for my F250 are very heavy and I has thinking the postage was going to be super high. The discounted shipping label is $8.50 per caliper.

So kudos to RA!!

I try to buy RA products(when available) at the same warehouse for example, brake parts(pads & rotors).
I have not liked their customer service as of late, if a RA customer service even exist any longer. I have still ordered parts from RA as their prices often can not be beat by my local parts stores(AAP, AZ, NAPA). As far as returning cores to RA, I have only done this once, adding to the cost of my total order but still cheaper than the parts stores^^^ listed.

I figure RA is a crapshoot. If it needs to be returned I figure I am gonna eat that part.
That hasn't been my experience with warranty parts. I had an AC Delco alternator go bad under warranty, I bought a new one, they shipped it 2 day and they sent a return label with it. I put the bad one in the box the new one came in, affixed the label and dropped it off at Fedex.

I did have to pay the shipping on the new replacement alt to my house though, so there was that but I recall it seeming to be less than what I expected and I didn't select the 2-day shipping on checkout but that is how it came.

I just had to warranty a 2 week old blower motor and the process was smooth as silk. They provided a pre-paid shipping label, I just boxed up the failed unit and sent it back. 3 days after they received it I had a code for store credit for the entire value, including the original shipping charge.

While you always have to be cognizant of shipping charges and lining up warehouses, I've never had an issue returning cores or defective parts. On several occasions they didn't even want the incorrect/defective part back and simply sent replacements.

They want me to pay return shipping on 2 oil filters that Champion has deemed defective and have been cut open, I provided them with the same pictures I sent to Champion. Ultimately the freight will cost about what I paid for the filters and I cant get replacements because they no longer stock that part number. Its a small thing but RA and Champion played the back and forth game. What should have happened was Champion should have sent me 2 new filters but that seemed unlikely from the start.

Coincidentally, shortly after this thread posted and I responded along with others, my BIL called me(not feeling well, in bed) and asked if I could look up F&R rotors for his ‘11 Equinox. He already has all the pads.
I ended up at RA and ordered what he needed(he trusts my judgement) and they’ll be here on Thursday.
I ordered all 4 DURAGO Gray Coated Rotor.
Here in NYS, it almost doesn’t matter which rotors we buy as the winter road salt will get’em anyway!

NYS Tax and RA discount code#…$170.06 shipped. Sadly, shipping was $26.98 of that $170.06.
As I was trying to get parts to come from the same warehouse(and save a few bucks) by putting in/taking out different brands, the RA system kept moving warehouses and jerking me around.

The RA parts were still ~$90+ cheaper than the next best OTD price elsewhere.

I have ordered Wagner coated rotors for F250 from Amazon. So free shipping.

I moved from Albany area of NY to beach area of DE.

Property taxes dropped enough that I would buy rotors every year, maybe every month. But it does not snow a lot in my area of DE and so not much salt is used. And I stay home if I can after the roads are brined the one or two days a year they actually do it

I like Amazon too and buy lots of items from them as well. They’re always a go-to place to buy things that I need as is Walmart online and less often, eBay, which used to be a go-to place. Now eBay is only that once in a while online shopping site for the thing that I need.

There is a high cost to low price. Shipping and returns, in this case is the fee.

I checked Amazon for similar priced coated rotors and the are $30 more than RA for this application.
