my walmart has the rollback price of $19.00

however, from time to time my Pepboys has a great deal that i stock up on. usually makes me buy a pureone filter with it. darn.
right now i've got 3 of the "boxes" (i think that is 6qts. each
)

Picked up 3 jugs of 5w30 PP at W-M here in Halifax, N.S. yesterday @ $19 each. With today's exchange rate that is about $16US/ea, and as cheap as any synthetic I've ever bought.

[censored] thats a good price. May check out my walmart and see what they charge.

The price difference is a couple lunches at the fast food joint. Does it really matter that much when you only change it 1-3 times a year?

It is much easier to blow money on things like fast food, candybars, and coffees etc everyday.

LOL... makes no sence... like the people waiting in a long line at a gas station for half hour with their engine running to save a dollar at the pump.

How about you do everything to save $$$.

Use what you NEED (not want because in the end it is wasted $$), do it yourself if possible and stay away from the fast food, candybars and coffee.

I'd rather put in $$ into some things that matter and have a value.

Take care, bill

Valv. SynPower $17.50/jug at Wally two days ago. Tonite, $19.

I understand the comments above about worrying about a few dollars for something you rarely do (OC). I stop and get an ice tea, and the above savings on a jug gets wiped out. But I'm not worried about paying $5 more per jug in a couple of years. I maintain four cars (at my expense). If those jugs double in price in the next three years. then that's no longer ice tea money. If there's no serious inflation - then fine - it's pretty much risk free, unless that jug significantly drops in price (fat chance).

Plus, to multiply the savings, I've (as of tonite at Sam's - my first $302 bill there) started doing this across the board. I was already late on several items. If you've noticed, several items have climbed several dollars in just the past few months. The past few wks for other items. Toilet paper and paper towels - were $11+, now close to $16. A flack of cokes were $8+ a few wks ago, now $10+ (passed on those). Also, I was bummed to find at Wally tonite that my vacuum cleaner bags had significantly bumped.

Prices may actually go down a bit (maybe) in the short term like they did after 9/11 to woo shoppers to spend money - but after the short term this thing could get ugly. If not, then at least I won't get caught on the toilet without the needed paraphernalia anytime soon.

BTW - Mobils FAQ sheet states their Syn has a five year shelf life (that's probably true with the others).

i think synthetic is good to clean out your engine so i am thinking about using it every other oil change or every third...any conventional is good for 7k...not that i go that far, usually 6k...you have really babied you vehicles, maybe just use synthetic for summer when it is hot...i hear the neon powertrains are pretty bulletproof...at least this decades

My point was most people blow way more money than that in a week or even a day. I used to be that guy that would wait in a gas line or drive across town to save a few cents a gallon. I also used to drive all over town to save 5 bucks on a Christmas gift that probably cost me 3 dollars in gas and the hassle of driving all over. As I have gotten older I have learned to sweat the big stuff and let the little things go.....

Most people in this country have way more free spending money than they realized. Anyone who has actually done a budget and looked at what they spend has observed that.

As I have gotten older I have also become more concerned about taking care of my vehicles. When I was younger I never worried about changing the transmission fluid, coolant etc. I just drove the car and put gas in it. Heck, I used to burn the rubber off the tires never thinking of the price of tires! So really not only have my oil costs gone up but also my other maintenance costs. But it all goes towards priorities.

Now if oil goes way up that might start to be "big stuff and get me concerned.

PP Is now $23.00 at my WM for a 5 Q jug. That is $4.60 per quart or 80 cents/q addition increase. I use a 6 quart oil change 2X times per year (6,000 mile OCI with my turbo i4). So about $9 extra a year. Too bad they raised the price but, then I spend ~ $55 per week on gasoline (55X52=$2,860 / year) so an extra $9 is not going to cause me too much pain. WM in the past has raised prices on oil for a month or two and then lowered it somewhat. I suppose if they lower it to $21, then everone will feel like their getting a great deal. Typical sales gimic.

Have you ever done a uoa to see how much life is left in the oil ? what if it could go longer " which is one of the syn oil benefits.

Because it's not just a $2 increase. It's a $2 increase on top of a $2 increase on top of a $2 increase, etc......

Those of us who have frequented bitog over the years have watched our favorite formulations sometimes double or triple in price.
