RIP Tom McEwen

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to talk with him a few times at National events. He will be missed by many. Condolences to his family and friends.

When I was a kid(in age) I collected drag racer cards instead of baseball cards and was very pleased I got "The Mongoose".
Never did get "The Snake" but was really happy I got one of the two.

He was before my time, but I appreciate everything the early racers did to make the sport what it is today.

Unrelated I saw Andy Granatelli at Costco years ago. He saw me getting the Kirkland version of Gatorade and asked if I could get one for him. I said "Sure anything for Mr 500" and the smile he had was incredible.

The independent film "Snake & Mongoose" from a few years ago chronicles Tom McEwen's contribution to the sport. It was mostly his idea to create the match race series between him and Don Prudhomme, and presented it to Mattel for sponsorship. The Snake and Mongoose Hot Wheels sets were a big hit with kids. (I was one of them.)
