I call placebo. And I would if you had said dyno to syn netted better averages. Way too many variables, no matter how well you try to control it.

how much improvement? was it significant or due to a shift in the wind?

Could be you get better compression with thicker oil or somemight say old versus new oil.

You don't want to hear this, but dino oils still shear slightly more than synthetics do. A synthetic dino 5w30 will most likely stay above 10.0 cst in service. A convnetional dino will often shear back to 8.8-9.0 cst, so it will be thinner, and give better mileage.

Bill stated he got the best mileage with QS dino over other dino and syn oils (including PP, M1 and Amsoil). What this at least tells you is that you won't get *better* mileage by spending more on oil. Oil brand (not viscosity) is a non-factor with respect to gas mileage IMHO.

That is true, but even small changes in viscosity don't make enough of a difference for me to notice. Definitely possible if you're a meticulous record keeper.

I get my worst ever fuel mileage on AFE - maybe it shoud be called AFU - adavanced fuel usage

i blame it on the winter fuel - but afe is a couple ticks thicker than the PYB I used last winter. I'm down 5 mpg this winter over last- an average of 5 tanks.

ARCO, do you believe a good conventional oil like PYB will provide better mileage under identical cicumstances? I've heard you repeat some dino lubricity claims, or was that in jest?

Your foot lost weight. Switching oils will yield likely an unnoticable diffence unless you have a 7hp car

A 5 mpg drop blamed on oil? That is a big drop, what was the mpg last winter? This winter was colder and had more snow, I'd think that would cause more of a change than dino vs synthetic oil. JMO

And even then probably wouldn't notice unless switching from 0W-20 to straight 50wt

5 MPG??? boy i run this oil all year around,i admit it's hard to tell if there's any improvement from day to day some days seem like yes then others i cant see any improvement, all i do know is i haven't lost no 5 mpg running this oil and my average is around 30-27 so nothing has changed.

i don't run it for it's mileage clames anyhow i run it because it's a h ell of an oil.

Switched from PP 5w30 to PYB 5w30. Around town increase IMMEDIATELY of 1.0 MPG to 1.5MPG. On the road about 2MPG to 2.5 MPG. I record every tank of fule to teh 1/10th and note city/hwy split, ambient, etc.

+1

Don't claim that dino works better, or you will anger the syn gods and be banished forever!

Glad you found a great oil for your application. PYB will make the engine outlast the rest of the car easily. Use it and sleep easy knowing you are protected and saving a few bucks at the same time.
