Well, a year ago, I sold my CrownVic to my co worker.. and I help him wrench on it sometimes.

It's a 98, so it calls for 5-30 oil.. all my other cars now take 5-20, so that's all I stock.

He wanted to use my ramps and tools, so I told him he'd have to go to the store to get supplies.

he comes back with good oil, a good filter, and RESTORE. Of course, he's saying it really helped restore power to this 150K mile V8.. heck, the oil change alone my have done that. Whatever.

http://www.restoreusa.com/ is the website for this stuff. Anyone have input?

Only few additives I may use for a full OCI:
VSOT(Valvoline Synpower Oil Treament which has a lot of Moly) Lubro Moly MOS2 and Bio/Tech.

Never used it but I'd say it's probably snake oil. The claim is that it somehow repairs scratches in the cylinder walls for better compression. If that is the case I don't see what would prevent it from clogging up oil passages or something like that. Hard to say whether it would do any damage but I doubt it does any good either. I don't put much faith into any "repair in a can".

Well then, you probably have never had a cold Guinness. I feel repaired every time I have one. hahahah

My dad used it on his old chevy p/u with 400k+ miles. He said it made a difference but would have to use it at every oil change. Even he thought that it was a bandaid fix and stopped using it.

UOA's have shown it has a lot of copper, i believe the copper must be filling the gaps. Also, i believe copper was used in the past as an antiwear agent in motor oil.

This, and the Slick 50 are the two engine oil additives that are nearly "always stocked" (as in, not sold out....nor touched.....) whenever I go to my local WM to get my Marvel Mystery Oil quart containers.....

Even the zMmax moves more than this stuff.....I don't know, it sounds "good" but don't know how possible it would be for this stuff to actually work....

Hasn't VSOT become extinct like the dodo? or do you have an old stash?

It has copper, silver and lead particles in it.I used it on a 80's mid size LTD w/a v6 w/varying compression that resulted in an uneven idle. The uneven idle was present for a few oil changes after i got the car.I added a can of Restore to a o/c and the uneven idle was greatly diminished.I'd have no qualms about using it in a car that is not worth spending a lot of money on.

No, Restore has no moly. As urlord said, it is tiny, soft particles of lead, silver, and copper, mean to be 'pressed' into cylinder wall scratches.

I've read many, many times stories that this is one of the few products that will help almost dead engines. I've read enough of them that I do think it is worth trying in an almost-dead engine. Might just help it a long a bit.

As a personal use story, I DID put a can of this in a perfectly running 1991 Corolla once, as I though additives were the thing to make cars run perfectly. It made absolutely no difference in the way the car ran or felt. Only used it once.

that...definitely Lead, Silver and Copper....if you look closely at the can it even had that within the logo

"CSL"

BTW, glad to know this additive didn't ruin your "perfectly running car" addyguy

Great testimonial

But yea, it's basically supposed to soak into the cylinder walls and pistons.....and help "compression".....never used it though

It can sometimes help an engine that has scuffed up cylinders, by filling in the scratches, scuffs, etc. If an engine is on its last legs it can help. It also needs to be added to the problem engine each time the oil is changed. In a healthy engine it will do nothing, and could actually plug something up.

I used it once. It actually worked.

The vehicle was a 1981 Pontiac Firebord with a 3.8L; my first car. I have no idea how many miles were on it, the odo had rolled at 100,000. At minimum, it was 147,000.

It was a bucket. If you drove it long enough to really warm the oil up (45 minutes), the oil pressure light would flicker at idle from the low oil pressure. I usually ran 20w-50 along with a bottle of motor honey to combat the low oil pressure. I'm sure cylinder washdown was an issue too. Oil always reeked of gas after changing.

I tried Restore on a whim. It made a noticeable difference in power. My scientific measurement: Before Restore, it would only turn over a tire in a wet patch of leaves. After, it would spin the tires on regular wet pavement. I tried it a second time with no further improvements, so I didn't go for a third try.

The article I read where it worked was similar - it was a 'Mopar perfornamce' magazine, and they bought a badly-worn 1979 Lil'Red Express truck to restore.

It had a 160k-mile 360 under the hood that run, but poorly. They changed the oil and added Restore, and they sai the truck became much peppier and definetly had more power.

That's ALL they did to the truck, and they had other people do a before and after drive who DIDN'T know the Restore had been added, and the people commented that the truck felt like they had done a full tune-up to it.
