I have a friend's 2010 honda Insight. The TPMS low tire pressure info came on. Checking, 2 tires 29psi, 1 26, 1 34. I set them all at 29. Drove the car 30 miles, still on; manual shows no resetting. Tire store where she gets the car serviced wants $20 to reset it. I don't own a scan tool. I'd rather throw the $20 towards a scan tool as I know she will reimburse me for the $20. Will a scan tool reset it? Will it tell me before I buy it that it will reset it? How much should I be spending? Would the plug in Bluetooth to the phone app be a better option? Would a better option be the freebie at AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts?

Others will chime in with actual experience. 29 lbs. seems too low and may not activate the TPMS to reset. Honda's seem to have a lot of TPMS peculiarities. You may have to drive over a certain speed for a certain amount of time to reset the light.

I don't think any of the cheap scan tools reset or program TPMS.

Others with real experience will chime in.

Make sure that you check the air pressure in the spare tire if the Insight has one. Also, you should inflate them all to at least 34 psi in case the trip point is 32 psi. 29 psi is probably below the threshold. The Honda TPMS warning light should automatically reset after driving a bit after reinflating all 5 tires.

Is the recommended pressure that low? I bet its around 32-34psi cold. the TPMS is doing what its supposed to do.

I set it to 29 only because it was easier because my chuck was leaking air. I'll buy a new one today and set it for 35+.

You still don't have them aired up to the specified pressure. More air does get better mpg, but don't go over the tire manufacturer's maximum which is marked on the tire. That is 35 in most cases.

I believe the maximum tire pressure marked on tires themselves are usually above 35 PSI in most cases. The placard on the door or other location in the car itself may well have 35 PSI or some other lower number. Two different reference sources, and the one in the car is what I go by.

Problem solved. Every one was right. I needed to increase the tire pressure, which I did to 35psi, drove the car, the low tire pressure light went out. Factory spec on the door was 33psi. It will be fine. Thanks.
