I visited 2 different Carquest stores after work today and added to my strategic-economic oil reserve. They have 5 quarts of Carquest (Ashland) conventional and a Carquest Red (made by Wix to Carquest's specs) for $11.99. That's $2.00 per quart and only $1.99 for a good quality, made in USA by Wix oil filter. I got 2 deals at each store even though the sale flyer says 2 deals per household...

So with 20 quarts of CQ 10W30 dino and 4 CQ filters added to the 4 quarts of Napa brand 10W30 and 2 Proselect filters I already had on hand (I had an extra filter because of a Napa coupon I used a few months ago for a free Proselect filter when you bought a case of Napa oil, plus the Napa oil itself was on sale then for $1.99 a quart), I am set for my next 6 OCI's! WhooHoo!!!

Plus I have 2 Proselects and 8 quarts Napa 5W20 for my girlfriend's Honda for her next 2 OCI's which are a lot longer than mine, I change it about every 4 or 5 months since she doesn't drive nearly as much or as far as I do.

So if the price of oil goes up later on this year, I'm all set for a good long time as it is. I'll still keep my eyeballs peeled for good deals on Napa or Valvoline though. And I'm always watching for a deal on ProSelect oil filters.

The CQ sale is good thru Dec. 31st. Ordinarily I don't post about stashing, but this was and still is a great deal on great oil and filters if anyone needs it.

Sounds pretty good, lately i have been trying to not buy oil unless it is dirt cheap, 1 dollar per qt or something because i already have about 150 qts of varying stuff from M1 5w40, M1 0w30, PP mulitple weights,QS HP, QS dino, Mobil 5k dino, Castrol Edge, and a few other misc brands that were on sale or clearance. I am not a person that likes to switch brands all the time but the recent close outs and rebates have made it difficult not too. I just bought a case (12) of PowerFlo(purilator classic) oil filters for 16.50 with AAP 10 dollar coupon. Im almost becoming a oil hoarder. For the sake of space in my shed, i hope the rebates stop. Good luck and nice find.

Why not pay a dollar more and get 5 qts of Havoline and a Purolator Classic instead?

Jimmy..... the online ad at Carquest says the deal is good through January 31st 2010. Just an FYI in case you wanted to add to the stash...

Been doing the same thing....going in to CQ every two weeks or so and getting the 2 per household limit each time. Haven't used the oil yet and will be my first time...hope the oil and the Red filter are decent......

I wonder if CQ changed the ad in the last few days. The last time I saw the ad online it said good thru Dec. 31. The woman working the counter at the first store I went to said the same thing, "Yeah it's good till Thursday" when I asked if they were honoring the sale before cleaning out the 10 quarts of 10W30 they had on the shelf.

The AAP Havoline deal is good too. I had even considered trying PYB too, but my Dakota runs very well with Valvoline/Napa oil, especially given that it has almost 122,000 miles on it now. And I really like the construction of the Proselect filters. CQ oil and CQ Red filters are identical to Napa brand oil and Proselect oil filters. My engine might burn maybe half a cup of oil over a 3000 mile OCI and I always get a good combination of flow and filtration with the Wix-made filters. I get good quick oil pressure and a nice smooth running engine on cold starts too. So I figure it's best to stay with what has been working fine all along.

Jimmy...you are correct........interesting......I see your location is Fl so I looked at your ad and it says Dec 31. I'm in Ohio...and I looked at my ad and it says.....Jan 31st 2010.......wonder what is up with that!

It could be an Ohio regional thing, or possibly some legal reason they have to run the sale longer in Ohio. Probably just a regional or state CQ logistics thing. Maybe they run it longer because of the cold weather in Ohio to give more DIY'ers more time to buy the oil and filters when you guys get any stretch of good weather so you can change your own oil at home. My girlfriend is from Madison, Ohio and she brought that point up which makes perfect business sense to me. Plus she also brought up the point that maybe the CQ oil and filters don't sell as quickly there as they do here in Florida so they run the sale longer in Ohio.

Either way, it's still a great deal on great oil and filters.
