I'm not real sure about how to get the dash apart in order to replace the a/c & heater control module.

Any ideas/pointers are appreciated!

What year Suburban? I have a 98 Yukon. The front Pod that's in front of the driver and surrounds the radio and heater controls just pops out.

I have a 99 Suburban, so I bet they are almost identical. The front pod just pops out ... where's a good place to start?

Okay this is if i remember right from when i put a radio in my truck and if it is like my 95 gmc serria. Then it was easiest to start at the upper corner of the air vent in the middle.

Now that I think about it I had to replace the controller on my truck also. But I had mechanic do it becuase I couldn't figure out what to call the thing and well I need it fast to be able to defrost my windows.

But from what you can tell, it's the same piece that you removed in order to replace your radio - right?

from a quick google i can see its the same set up as my truck. So yeah just pull on the thing the clips will pop out of the holes and come free(I don't remember there being screws but this was a few years ago). The buttons/ switches for lights, 4wd ... are in this panel and connected with wires. In my case there was enough wire length on them to make it so i didn't have to disconnect while I changed my radio. My Chilton manual says that controller is retained by snap fit retainers. Also the book doesn't say it but it kind of sounds like you will want to match how the switches where pointing on the new unit to how the switches were pointing on the old unit before you connect the cables.

Thanks for the help. I was able to get it off and install the new one. The only problem is that the reason I was replacing it in the first place was because it wouldn't switch to defrost. Guess what? It still doesn't. Apparently the problem is somewhere else and I have no idea where to look. Suggestions?

well one of the cable out the back goes to the the temperature control and the other goes to the defroster. So one of them will lead you to where ever the door that controls how air is diverted. Can't really say anything more than that.

Now I'm ready to try the blend door actuator. The problem is that I can't get the right side of the dashboard all the way off to get to it. Any suggestions? Again, it's a 1999 Suburban.
