Purchased one of these for my Goldwing. Didn't know that you were not supposed to use a Battery Tender with it, which is fine if that's true.... it's supposedly an AGM battery. Wonder how it could be built so differently that it doesn't need a trickle charge...

Anyone had any experience with this battery?

That's a bit confusing to me and I'm am not a battery guru. So, I make no claims of knowing more than the company that made the battery. HOWEVER...

They mention, "tender" but also mention, "not being able to take a 24/7 charge".

TENDER's(maintainers) don't charge for 24/7, they maintain 24/7. Tenders aren't alway "putting power in", they're monitoring voltage. And when voltage drops to a predetermined setting, the Tender/Maintainer turns on and trickles in some juice to another predetermined setting/volts and STOPS!

And another thing...

I'm not so sure that I like the..."if you aren't riding for 30 days, to charge the battery for 48 hrs"!
I would not do this without monitoring the voltage during that 48 hrs timeframe even using a trickle charger, which is what I think they mean...IDK, it's just me!

And lastly...

It seems to me that the battery needs its own Owner's Manual for the MFG to "better" explain things to DO & NOT DO!

I checked my maintainer one time because it seemed to on longer than I thought necessary and the battery showed 14 volts already. I do not leave them on without checking now. It was either the WM or HF one, I don't remember as I have both.

Pretty much any healthy battery shouldn't need a trickle charge if the bike is ridden for a decent amount of time every week or two - as long as there is no parasitic power draw. I think I read somewhere that AGM batteries have a lower self discharge rate than conventional lead acid batteries.

Don't know about your Goldwing, but my Yamaha (with AGM battery) only powers the clock when the ignition's off and I've left it for up to 3 weeks with no starting issues. I did discharge a battery once when I mistakenly left a USB accessory charger plugged in - although there was nothing plugged into the USB port, the charger itself still drew enough power (crap design?) that the battery was under 10V after a week and a half. Now I make sure to disconnect the accessory charger when I'm not using it.

Anyway, that Renegade battery is suspiciously cheap at about 1/3 the price of a Yuasa AGM, but hey, if it works it works. If that were my Goldwing I'd check to see what kind of ignition off power draw it has, just to be on the safe side.
