Redline MT-85.

Many VAG products specify 75w90. Their less expensive (and hence less powerful) vehicles can get away with 85.

Still, nice to see them offer more products to cater to a wider market.

We need as many 'slices' as required to make every owner happy.

Redline smart to market a 75w85 since many are too afraid to mix MTL/MT90.

Now waiting on Amsoil, Royalpurple........

Sounds like Redline is following enthusiasts on forums.
They made this so we don't have to mix anymore!

Kinda like Fender Guitars started using a 5 way switch in the Stratocaster, because players often set the control to an in between position.

I've actually communicated with reps from several 'boutique' oil companies over the years and they've hinted that the big wigs keep an eye on what is going on the internet.

New products come out because of your demand for them.

I'm a big fan of Redline MTL, MT90, and PSF.
Was very happy when Amsoil came out with MTF, MTG, and PSF.

MT-85 is a slam dunk for Kia, Nissan, Hyundai....owners.

Little irate that RoyalPurple, and others, haven't added a few more products to their lines.

Are they installing that same switch on the Teles? (Or Twangcasters as I like to call them

)

Teles always had a 3 way - 1, 1+2, 2
Strats had 1,2,3 The in between settings allowed - 1, 1+2, 2, 2+3, and 3
Some guys used tape to limit the throw on the old 3 way switch [for quick selection], or simply carefully placed it.
Detents were added by Fender many years ago to get a 5 way switch.

I will mention gear oil now, so the thread is not totally hijacked!

Mixing of the MT and MTL was suggested to me by Dave at Redline but it did not work very well in solving the Hyundai notchy Manual transmission.

Switched back to MTL and it works gureat. Did try Amsoil to no avail but maybe had the wrong fluid. Do not remember what I had.

Just asked Dave if I should change to the 85 stuff but have not heard back yet.

This MT-85 is perfect for the Lancer Evo 6spd's too. That is an OEM weight and I have put 75/90 in the gear box and it shifted terrible. Threw in the 75/85 smooth as glass. The additive package HAS to be somewhat different for me to notice a change like that. Props to Redline for making it, its a niche weight and not a whole lot of people use it, but it was Needed. The OEM Stuff from Mits runs $100 a gallon! So yeah this is great Redline has this available!

No mix anymore, Great.
By the way, The color of MT-85 is red which is different from MT-90.

Sorry for the revival of an old thread but I too am really happy to see this product. For us Mazdaspeed owners, the thicker 75w90's in Amsoil and Red Line's flavors left less than desirable shifting which led many to Motorcraft's very expensive and hard to get XT-M5-QS which is as thin as we could go before getting into the Synchromesh/max fluids, which was a little too thin for most of us to gamble with. For comparison, here's how the two match up (I should say, the FM is actually in warranty and the MT-85 is not)...

Redline MT-85 / Motorcraft XT-M5-QS
40c /// 64.3 /// 76.0
100c // 12.0 /// 15.4
VI //// 172 //// 211
PPc /// -48 //// -54
FPc /// 236 //// 186

...so it's basically right between a GL-4 75w90 and a Synchromax. Looks like a good option for those that want a bit better shifting than those can provide but not at the cost of wear protection that the Synchromesh/max's provide, as those are around the 9 to 10 area @100c which is just too low for me to feel comfortable with. I'm actually thinking of doing a mix of two quarts of MT-85 and one of MT-90. I love the XT-M5-QS though, it's just so dang expensive and hard to get.

I just bought 3 qts of MT 85.
My Amsoil MTF [the synchromesh type]was fine, but I like flushes and I like this viscosity.
It is is not installed yet, so no reporting ....yet!.

So, any report? I've tried 50/50 mixes with both Redline MT-90/MTL and Amsoil MTG/MTL in Nissans, and just wondering if this could be the easiest answer.

Yes it works great in my Ford ZX2 which was originally spec'd /back spec'd for ATF.
I have tried most everything but royal purple in this trans.
Shifting is as good as any with the Redline 85. And winter showed no cold shifting problems at all. Felt about the same, actually.
I appreciate the extra protection of a real synthetic dedicated manual transmission fluid in a thicker viscosity than ATF, and being friction modified for synchros helps too.
