I have a Corvette that is powered by a Supercharged and Nitrous injected 406 cid. sbc I beat the dog $!#*out of it.
Oil capacity is 10 quarts.
The first three years I ran it on 5w50 Castrol syntec.
Next two years I ran it on 15w50 Mobil-1 and it always used a quart of oil every 500 miles.
This spring I changed to 10w40 Redline and it has about 500 miles on it. I checked the oil today and it is on the full mark. Anyone want to take a stab at the cause for this sudden stop of oil consumption. The engine has 8500 miles on it since built

Redline has the lowest evaporation rate across the board of any oil on the market. The Noak volatility is 6% for all their oils. Esters have lower volatility and this makes them ideal for cars like yours.

Thanks Buster. You are probably right.
Whatever the reason my engine seems to like the redline.
At hot idle the redline 40 has just as much oil pressure as the 5w50 Syntec did.

One of the site supervisors that I work with has a 996 GT3. After much switching, he finally landed on the Redline 30 weight racing oil. It's a track exclusive toy. He said he like the pressure and the fact that it is still golden, even after a 6 hour race at 270+ degrees.

I experience measurably less consumption with Red Line in my pedestrian Plymouth Neon than any other oil I've tried (various low-price oils, M1, Amsoil). Also, I get lower consumption with Red Line 5W20 than with the 5W30 versions of all the above.

The only car I had that did not like Redline was my 72 Super Beetle with too much compression a decent cam and OH yeah separately needed a Real Breather Kit from both heads and the case. It would blow out the little breather filter like it was not there and the DINO would not pass the filter as easily.

Ran cool and quite just oiled the outside almost as well as the inside.

Ah well.

my brothers and later my 69 Ghia which was stock LOVED the 20W-50.

Bart, Do you have low tension rings within your Vette motor? I am thinking of switching to Redline after I have been running Rotella, due to the added zinc etc it had. But oil consumption is a concern, and Redline seems to have low consumption in many vehicles.

NO I do not have low tension rings.
This is not a track car just driven for the most part on the street. what some would call a weekend warrior.
The rings are speed-pro Molly coated but with 20 pounds of boost it is hard to seal the pressure.
I just put another 150 miles on it yesterday and it is still full and the oil looks a nice gold color just like it did when I put it in.
I had the oil pretty hot yesterday I did a little spirited driving.

20#'s of boost. Ouch. Those rings are taking a beating. I have JE moly coated low tension with 11.1 to 1 comp. Not quite your boost level,

, but I have some blow by. I am looking at a good oil that can handle blow by and low consumption and Redline has a good rep with low consumption.
