I have used castrol synthetic and edge brand. The engine does perform well when using full synthetic oil. Just want to know what the other members have been using to get the best outcome. Plus it would be nice if the replies give zero to sixty times.
FOR INSTANCE MY 1998 MAXIMA GXE RESULTS ARE AS FALLOWING
Castrol full synthetic 9.5
valvoline high mileage 14.4
mobile one 11.4

And a combination of mobile one with liquid molly and marvel mystery the best I got was 8.2.

Maximas can be pretty quick. Lightweight for 99 and older with a 3.0 or 3.5 VTC DOHC V6.

??

They're quick cars. My 2002 SE 6 speed was the fastest car I've ever had aside from my Altima SE.

My friend has a 2002 SE 6 speed and with bolt ons, and slicks, it runs low 13's.

But yeah, that post is just mental.

Not only does this post to Maxima.org sound dumb, it also does not compensate for other variables in 0-60 times. Do the tires have the same grip in each test? What is the temperature, is it constant? Not every batch of gasoline is perfectly identical to others, and that car may be sensitive to variances in octane and ethanol content.

The Nissan Maxima often had a better 0-60 time than competitors, and enthusiasts who have Maxima's with manual transmissions treasure their cars, or at least treasured the ones between 1989-2003. It doesn't surprise me that someone would take interest in the performance of their Maxima.

hysterical! "what oil for true horsepower gains". Good grief.

Yet we hear people brag on BITOG that their engine "revs more freely", "is happier", likes or dislikes, get better gas mileage or worse gas mileage yada yada, with one oil over the next.

Placebo effect.

When you change oil grade and type from HDEO 15W40 to synthetic 0W20 you will get better gas mileage at all city/highway speed, better performance. But the engine may not lasted as long.

If your car oil spec is 5W30 try 15W40 next OCI then try 0W20 after that to see if you will get any difference.

So he got a 6.2 second decrease in 0-60 time just by changing oil? If only he could find the "best" oil, he could probably get 0-60 down to 2.0!

Extrapolating that friction reduction to fuel consumption, he could be getting rebates from the reverse flow back into the fuel nozzles at the gas station.

Castrol-seems about right.
Maxlife-dropped stopwatch on floor and had to find.
M 1-Fumbled stopwatch.
Either that or bracket racing will never be this guy's thing.
