Good Morning folks. The axle in Dakota isn’t a posi. I’m deciding on ST 75w-90 or other value priced ones. What say the BITOG faithful?

Thank You

Just put HPL diff life 75w-90 in my front and rear diff’s of the ‘97 Ram 1500. Got a case during the 4th of July sale 2024 that was competitive with other brands.

I have a rear limited slip 9.25 rear and Dana 44 front. Only drove about 300 miles since install. The rear is smooth as silk. Engagement of limited slip and release is fantastic.

I know your rear isn’t posi, but just stating I am pleased with this fluid.

Prior fluids of other brands, I had varying levels of chatter, with the LS additive included or the ones I added the additive separately.

Any, and I mean ANY, 75w-90 GL-5 will suffice in your old truck. That engine doesn't have enough grunt to put the diff at risk of peril.
If you want an inexpensive lube, then ST will work fine. If you want top shelf stuff, the HPL or Amsoil SG will work fine.

The application you have isn't a big deal; it's not a high-stress drivetrain, so don't make a mountain out of a molehill.
My advice is to quit overthinking this, Adam. This is already your second thread about lube for the same application ...

ST is fine but its also not the 4.62/qt It used to be

I'd be tempted to go for the valvoline squeeze bags for ez mode.
I just bought both of these last week. IIRC, the squeeze bag was almost 16 bucks and the ST qt jug was almost 14. I just use the bag first then put the ST qt into that bag to finish.

Just serviced my Jeep today. Only a few bucks more than Valvoline at Wally.
