Looking for a good syn oil that is 12-13cst @ 100 degrees.

Most 40s are too thick, most 30's too thin.

Recommendations please.

Dan

Esso XD-3 0w30 would fit the bill. But seeing you are in Georgia, its probably not very practical to obtain.

You might consider doing your own mix of a xW-30 and xW-40 oil from your favourite oil vendor.

Just mix your favorite 30 and 40 weight synthetic.

And this begs the Question..8.5 cSt. oil seems to be fine in the hottest parts of the U.S. Is 12cSt oil really necessary?

I have begun searching the web for the same information and (although not finished) I have found so far:

Pennzoil High Mileage 10w30 = 12.0

German Castrol 0w30 = 12.0

Castrol GTX High Mileage = 12.1

Castrol Syntec 10w-40 = 13.2 (lowest 40 wt found so far)

of course you want only syn, but I am looking at both...Anyone have other suggestions?

GC for PAO synth

Syntec 10w-40 for a Group III synth. (13.2 cSt)

The PZ and Castrol HM oils for non-synths

GC is not a PAO synthetic.

But I do recommend it for his application and what he is asking for.

Umm, the primary base oil is certainly PAO.

Castrol TXT Softec group III Synth

sold at your local BMW dealership as BMW High Performance Synthetic 5w30. I think they sell it for around $5/quart. Check the UOA section under BMW High Performance. Some very good results there.

CST is 12.2

I did not think GC was a PAO based oil either? I thought it was more ester based?

Torco SR-1 CST 12.05. Factory direct $6.75 qt $6.25 shipping no matter how many qts you buy.

I have been using this oil for some time now in my Ford work and personal vehicles (5W-20 & 5w30). Smooth, quiet and noticably better MPG over GC in the vehicles that use 5w30.

Not cheap, but another alternative

Please tell me your machinist did not fit forged pistons to stock 340 mopar piston to cylinder wall clearances of .0005- .0015.

If can get 0w 30 GC I would go with that for a good synthetic. Providing your jetting is good and fuel dilution is not a problem,
