Really Disappointed with Amazon

This year, I decided to try the Christmas shopping on Amazon thing so I could avoid having to go to the stores for a lot of stuff.

So, 10 days ago, I made up an order. Went through all of the trouble to (1) get in-stock items (2) get in-stock items that are shipped from Amazon and (3) match my add-on items with "real" items.

10 days, it still has not shipped or authorized my Credit Card. A bit confused as to why this was happening, I used their "call me" option.

I'm not going to act like me NOT buying a prime membership is going to hurt them, and taking business elsewhere is going to affect them - I am one person that spends *maybe* $200 a year there ... but that's likely going to be the case.

Guess I will be stuck in the Christmas rush this year.

Is it typical Amazon practice for those without Prime?

So, what was their response to your issue? Why is the order taking this long to ship out?

BTW, I usually just use their online chat. They've always been good about addressing my questions that way. Then again, we have Prime, but even before we had Prime, I never had any issues with their service.

I rarely have any issues with Amazon. Sounds like your order didn't go through.

Sounds like a unique case, before I joined PRIME I still used Amazon and never had an issue. I have had a few minor issues with outside shops that sell through Amazon, but nothing when actually purchased directly from Amazon's warehouse.

I have never had one single problem with Amazon or their affiliates in the many many years and many thousands of dollers I have spent there.

I am NOT a Prime Customer. S*&&*^t happens though.

First issue I have had with Amazon. I have been using them more than in the past because I have always had better luck with them than Ebay.

Order went through. From what I understand, unless you have Prime, you will have to wait for Prime orders to go through first.

So, while there was stock when I placed the order, Prime members also bought the item and mine was put on the back burner.

I'm more upset that I never got notification - a simple "Hey we sold out" or "Hey this product is on backorder" would have worked. I work in ERP / CRM software, I know that this is 100% possible when it happens.

I understand they do this to try to sell Prime memberships but, in fact, they just did the opposite with me. I was close to buying one for the digital content but now I will not be.

Their suggestion was to just wait an unknown period of time for stock to come in ... or to ship part of the order and pay extra to ship the rest.

My suggestion was to cancel the order.

What did Amazon tell you the estimated delivery dates would be when you ordered?

I'm not prime either. I've ordered things that have taken 10 days to fill and others that ship immediately with free shipping. If I want a guaranteed delivery date, I pay for it... And have never had one of those wait to be filled.

FYI, I do receive email notifications from Amazon if the originally expected delivery date is going to be missed due to shipping issues, for example.

IDK what to tell you, I order stuff on Amazon all the time and never have issues. Sounds like your order didn't go threw.

It's happened to me before especially when one of the items is on the opposite coast, and you are not a Prime member like me. I did order a Buck knife the other week on early Thursday morning, and it was delivered two days later(no Prime) on Saturday because it was at a warehouse near me, so it works both ways.

Dec 11 to 15.

The way they handle orders is strange, to me, at least. I had fatfingered my credit card on the order prior to this. They went to charge the card when they were ready to fulfill the order, gave me a notification that it was wrong, I entered the right one and had the item the next day.

I use to order a lot from Amazon. I am not a prime member but had good service. On one order I accidentally enrolled myself in their Prime trial membership. I didn't realize it until I had already placed the order and then it was too late. I canceled the membership as soon as I could. On orders after that it started taking at least 2 weeks to get something even from the local Atlanta warehouse. So I just quit ordering from them completely.

Depends on the volume of packages you get. I tend to be in the 5-6 orders a week crowd, so my Prime has paid for itself 1000x. Never an issue with shipping, returns, etc. If it says it will make it there in 2 days, I have 99.99% faith it will be there in 2 days. And they have even refunded me for things that have arrived late.

Don't expect stuff to be early if you select free shipping - it says "no hurry" and they mean it. That is the shipping speed where the system waits for a lull in the warehouse and then fills your order. I've seen 10 day shipping speeds with the free shipping, and I've seen overnight with free non-2-day shipping.

I actually use the student version of Prime, & there has been a HUGE increase in speed of orders, things from far away are even shipped 2nd Day Air for no extra charge. Before, there was a definite lag in orders making it out of their warehouse, even orders from their local warehouse in Hebron, KY would take a week to get out the door. They've had a big increase in business this year, that's part of the problem.

I have shopped with Amazon for a really long time, and have had some bumps in the road. Especially now that I have prime, but they're always transparent and willing to help.

In fact, was buying a gift and Carhartt women clothing was on sale with a coupon code, messaged asking why it wasn't for men, and they went ahead and gave me a overridden sale price for a men's clothing purchase as well.

I will agree that it seems that Amazon is a tough process without prime!

I use Amazon as a retailer of last resort. The Prime thing is, IMHO a scam to get you to pay for elected shipping when in reality they can do 2 days to most addresses now the regular old way.

For Me, Amazon = Walmart of online.

Disappointing to not get your stuff when they indicated it should get to you for sure. I guess the question is did you pay for expedited shipping or was it the free shipping?

Free shipping in their world essentially means we will get it to you eventually when we have some downtime. I've had stuff be here in a day, and stuff be here in 2 1/2 weeks using that shipping method. More or less assume its going to be a while... Works fine when there really isn't any time pressue.

When there is time pressure, I always pay to ship it via 2-day or something similar. Never had an issue with those orders shipping when they were supposed to.

Exactly its a way of increasing their profits. Almost everything I order is shipped the same day. I think also that when you order from their partners there is zero difference.

amazon has been a home run for me lately. only 14 extra bucks (prime) for next day on a radiator and still undercutting advance auto by $35, and it pretty much fulfilled 85% of my xmas gifts for the rainbow of fruits/nuts/flakes in my circle of friends/family.
