It's a rather high price for the specs it meets. However, it is a pretty darn good oil for all my own applications. I may have to watch for a sale, or eventually bite the bullet. We'll see.

The Rotella 0w40? I don't think it meets the specs for your modern gas engine. And why a 40 weight in the winter in canada in your sienna? Lots of options that do meet spec. Just match the specs from your manual to the back of the oil bottles

Right or wrong that is why I prefer using XD 0W30/0W40 (over PC Duron or T5 Rotella) as XD does possess the CJ-4 rating.

Reason i got it was cuz i wanted to try a HDEO as well as 0W rated oil, but will it hurt the engine or no?

FWIW (and maybe it is too late as you have already bought the T5) but as I said you have easy access to Esso's HDEO CJ-4 oil (0W30/40) (called XD).

Quote:
For what it's worth, I think the T5 is marketed as a semi-synthetic, where the T6 is marketed as fully synthetic.

True enough.
BUT, with a rating of 0W-30, 0W-40 there's a high percentage of synthetic oil in the T5 to get the 0W rating. So it may be marketed as a 'blend', it's mostly Group III synthetic.
I'll be trying the 0w30 when my current stash is drawn down.

I tried Esso and PC but they wanna charge 40 bucks for a 4L jug, so i bit the bullet and got the T5 and my [censored] is not wanting to exchange mine

. SO im just concerned if any damage will occur to the engine or should i use it in my 2003 malibu 3.1L

It won't hurt your engine.

The new spec for oils have to do with cleaning, lower moly, etc..
HDEO oils are high in detergents (and moly, etc.) to begin with, even if they don't have the latest endorsement/specifications on the label.

Where was that?! I buy my XD from Canada wide Home Hardware and it is $28.99 for 4L (great oil for a great price).

You know I don't think I have yet seen Carquest in a 0W30....I do know it is made...just never seen.

I would like someone to try the now GF-5/SN PC 0W30.

You are right it isnt CJ-4 and for an HDEO it seems surprisingly light ie its 40C and 100C viscosity #s are actually very close to even that of the PCMO PC dexos1 5W30. Its HTHS is also not excessive ie 3.3. It has a respectable VI # in the mid 170s.

I would like to find time to give this oil a inter run.

(Shell's Rotella 0W30 has almost identical viscosity #s to the DURON offering and an even higher VI #; so 6 of one, half dozen of the other....as my dad would say)

EDIT: I do see that the XD 0W40 is much more expensive than the 0W30 ie just over $10 a litre

(I guess another reason to use 0W30 over 0W40 if at all possible)
