My wife, daughter and MIL all purchased Rav4s (2013-15) which have a sealed transmission. However, unlike my 05 Tacoma, they do not have a level check plug. I had hoped to perform DIY flush on all @ 60k but not sure how to determine the correct fluid level other than measuring the amount of fluid drained. Other ideas/thought?

Is it like the VW/ Audi transmissions with the stand pipe in the drain pan?

Or perhaps the dip stick is just buried and hard to find/ see?

On the Siennas and Camrys there is a drain plug. Then behind the drain plug there is another plug with the standpipe. Remove that and you can get 2 quarts out.

The fill plug is behind the driver side wheel. You have to remove the wheel and several splash guards to access the fill plug.

Toyota has a crazy temperature related fill method that is unnecessary. Just do a cold drain and fill. That way the old fluid is the same temp as the new fluid and the volume will match. So if you get 2 quarts out, put 2 quarts back in and repeat however many times you want.

Again this is on the Camry and Sienna, not sure if the Rav4 have the same transmission.

There is no dipstick.

You will need to get a service manual to show you how to do the oil level check. It will involve oil temperature and having the trans level as well. On all of my other Toyota/Lexus vehicles you have to get the oil between 110-114F to check the level via a drain plug tube while the engine is running. It is complex but not difficult. I flush all of mine via the cooler line every 50,000 miles. Only use the factory recommended ATF which should be Toyota WS. I use an IR thermometer to tell when the pan hits 110F and then I remove the drain plug until it lightly trickles. That works so far.

It is done when the vehicle is completely cold after sitting all night. So when you do the fluid level check you run it to 110F and then adjust the level.

Is it the Aisn A750 transmission? If so I can give you a link with instructions. It's on tacomaworld.com.

U660E(V6) & U760E(I4) transmission family is easy to service.

Level check requires temp, besides level service, at no load idle.....

Large left side bolt for fill. I can usually get to it from top/bottom with removing inner fender panels, working blind by feel. Overflow and drain plug in pan, but some don't have a drain plug. If you have only one plug in the pan, its the overflow level check, and you will have to do a cooler line flush. Get new washers for the plugs at the dealer and have a torque wrench to snug fill and overflow plugs properly.

IR gun or tape thermometer work just fine for a level fluid check.

Any ATF that mentions WS can be used.
