Really you start out at $40k?

The new Jetta is only $15....

Apparently VW didn't learn their lesson with the Phaeton

Who ever is running VW NA isn't all there... He also refused to bring the new scirocco stateside.

40k does seem high for a car that is not a luxury car.

On the other hand, 15k is not what you will pay for the new Jetta, unless you want the 2.0 (or 2.slow). Even then, it's unlikely that you will find a stripped one on the lot. The average transaction price of a new Jetta is probably near 20k, which is probably average for its segment since most of the models are now moving upmarket.

That really isn't relevant unless we are talking about how much car we can get 40k, as those cars are not cross-shopped.

I can't see the CC being worth more than 35k, even with the upward trend of car pricing.

Considering the Audi range, I would hardly call $40K the middle of their price spectrum.

People also need to keep in mind that the price quoted here ($39,990 to be exact) is for the top trim-line of the CC. The CC VR6 Executive leaves nothing to be added, literally. In reality, the CC model starts at just $28,200.

Kind of puts a different light on it, huh?

Right but its the only one with that 3.6 VR6.

I didnt go into the builder for that trim package.. i just saw it said starts at 38.

Maybe i opened my mouth with out all the info.

But still...

The Passat and Jetta are too close in size these days. There's almost no reason to get the Passat, especially since they dropped the V6.

My brother recently bought a 2010 Jetta SE -- the Passat was barely any bigger, got the same gas mileage, and cost about $6K more...

Just to throw in some perspective, a well equipped Maxima starts at around $37K, and no AWD in that price either. CC VR6 comes with AWD standard.

But yeah, if I were to get a CC, I'd take the 2.0 TSI manual and save $11K over the VR6.

Yikes! That's too bad. We had to dump our '06 Jetta because with a car seat in the back for the baby the passenger had his/her knees folded into the dash. The trunk is tiny too. Some companies could give a [censored] about a "family" car I guess...Doesn't VW mean "people's car" in German? LOL

Man I wish they were priced up here that low. The Passat CC is priced well for what it is. It is very comparable to an Accord V6, Mazda6 V6, Toyota Camry V6, etc.

I really doubt those prices are legitimate.
A lot of dealers (different makes) near me advertise similar low prices but you can never get the car for the advertised price.

I've driven both the base Sport with 2.0T and the VR6. Their is not a huge performance difference between them. The 2.0T turbo can do 0-60 in the high 6's and quarter in the low 15's. Engine has lots of low end torque. Not much reason to downshift out of 6th with the man trans when dealing with freeway slowdowns. Comparing the two cars side by side, It would be tough to spend high 30's on the VR6 compared to high 20's on a Sport model. The CC Sport is a great car. The 2.0t motor has won in Wards 10 best engines two years running.

Too bad they do not put the Diesel in the CC over here. You could be looking at a very nice 4-door pulling nearly 40 mpg.

The 2.0L TDI will be available in the all-new 2012 Passat. It has promised to get 43 mpg on the highway, according to today's press release.
