Guys:

Just changed my ATF with the new Mobil Multi-use ATF and noticed a rank smell. Note: I had previously used the regular Syn Mobil AFT and never noticed any smell.

Is there any reason for this smell? It smells like it's burnt.

Thoughts?

JR

Agreed, it is the worst smelling stuff I ever used.

That's how you know it's good. It has real bits of ground up panther in it.

Every Chrysler ATF+4 product I ever used stank when new. M1 is now ATF+4 approved, so it must mean that the bad smelling stuff from ATF+4 made its way into M1.

Mobil 1 ATF is NOT ATF+4 "approved." In fact, if you look at the Mobil 1 ATF page you'll see that Chrysler applications are conspicuously absent from the list.

Well...I kinda like it...the wife likes it too...I put a little dab behind each ear and it drives her crazy...

Lol the PYB smells pretty bad, and so did the Castrol Syntec Synthetic Blend I used in the mower. PP smells ok.... The valvoline Dexron VI I used along with the Maxlife smells kinda sweet, it reminds me of chocolate covered strawberies.... Mmmm... yum

""Is there any reason for this smell?"'

Wise guy answer is thats how its made

The AO and friction modifers I think are to blame

I find it to have a skunk stank followed by machine shop essence. Fadeing into ripe cooked berry nose with leather and spice undertones with a long petrol cat spray finish. Highly reccomended.
