I wanted to move the Fumoto valve from a rusted oil pan to the new one and asked about buying a new washer.
I received an email saying they are $1 on the website which is fine but when i get tho the shipping page..

USPS Economy Shipping - 5 to 9 business days ($3.00)

USPS Priority Shipping - 3 to 5 business days ($7.89)

Holy cow what a hose job for a fiber washer that weighs about a gram.
I wont pay it on principal, the pan has a drain plug and it will keep it. All mine and my families vehicles have one of these valves installed but when they are sold they will not be fitted to the new cars.

I don't mind paying for what i need but i refuse to get hosed.

Rant over.

But doesnt someone have to be employed to "handle" the item and get it packaged (packing materials cost something), addressed, and mailed out? Postage is at least 50c.

But kudos to you for saying that they are charging a price that is theivery for the value provided, and staging a boycott. I like your style

What about getting another washer of some other sort but the same size from an auto parts distributor? Arent these things fairly ubiquitous?

I like the fumoto valve a lot, put it on every car I get, never had a problem.

I guess $3 bucks to put a washer in an envelope and mail it doesn't sound to bad to me, but I'm from Canada where we are used to overpriced shipping charges.

I know it hurts when the shipping is more than the washer but they can only lower the act of shipping so much.

Finally doing the Grand Prix oil pan?

It sucks, but such is life these days. Shipping is ridiculous.

You need to pay the time for someone to pickup your item, place it in an envelope, address it and mail it. Could you run a business doing it for less than $3.00 even if the postage was only 46 cents?

Do you really need their washer?

I don't want anyone in my family working for $3 an hour to find a part, address envelope, put in an item and make sure it gets sealed and mailed within a reasonable time. Funny why some think their worth $75/ hour but, everone else is over paid at $5. :-))

Yep its all done, no leaks. After looking at your pics i decided to just drop the cradle and held the engine with a hoist. Nothing earth shaking but one of those front engine mount bolts on the rear of the block next to the transmission is a PITA.

I didn't use any sealer just on the joints per FelPro instructions and it worked out fine, i did change the rotten bolts with SS.

I ship 8 steel injectors cross country for $8 so yes i could. Its called customer service!
I don't mind paying a buck or even two but more than that is IMHO a rip off.
If a previous customer needs some o rings because he needs to move the injectors i charge $2 bucks including the o rings, if its one of my regulars i just send them out or i will take them personally if its not far and not charge them a dime, its worth it to me to keep my customers happy.

Its not like i bought the valve from someone else and am trying to get a freebie, i bought 6 or 7 for my own stuff alone plus the rest of my family.

I have no idea if i need the washer or not but i don't want a leak from the valve.
I read the washer softens when subjected to oil.
Honestly i could care less, i will hook the thing and be done with it, i don't give a rats rear how good they are.

Bottom line for me is i will buy your product or service and pay you what you ask but don't hose me later when i need some service regardless of the dollar amount.

I know that bolt well. You have to fish it up there with an offset wrench. PITA PITA!!!

I did drop the cradle but it wasn't enough in the Buick. Had to lift the motor too. I have been told they are different, but I don't see where.

No leaks is nice. When I gave mine to my buddy the car was perfect. No leaks and the only broke was the stupid cup holder.

Considering you can mail about 25 an hour without breaking a sweat; not a bad hourly wage.

Customer service seems to be a thing of the past. I'm charged locally $1.00 for a Honda drain washer, .50 online with $3to4 bucks shipping. I bought 100 drain washers for $12.00 a few years back free shipping. I'll probably not run out in my lifetime.
Think ahead and stock up on consumables.
YMMV

The Buick is the same, i dropped the cradle right down. Pop the rack bolts, line bracket bolts, lower control arms, stabilizer nuts, rear transmission mount nuts and 4 cradle bolts.
You can get the transmission out easy like this also if you drop the left strut out.

It sounds like a lot of work but it was quick with an impact gun and air ratchet.
The trick is aligning the cradle when you put it back together, (you probably know this already but for those who don't) there are holes for an alignment tool.
I made two out of aluminum but it can be made with wooden dowel for a one or two time use.
Its common for these cars (and others that have their lower control arms bolted to the cradle) to have caster or set back issues after they have had even the rear cradle bolts loosened.
The cradle shifts slightly to the rear and goes uncorrected. Aligning the cradle fixes it right up.

Some of you guys are missing the point. No one takes an hour to pack a washer and print a sticky label out but that isn't the point.
The point is $3 normal shipping or almost $8. When did the post office start up charging a $5 difference between envelopes that use a 46c stamp?
If they are using a box to ship a 1 gram fiber washer then they need to do something as they are spending way too much on shipping.

No matter, its a non issue i will just use the drain bolt that came in the new pan and be happy.
The lack of customer service was just something that got me PO'd.
