This last weekend when I went shooting I cleaned my Glock. Had the barrel pretty clean using my concoction of ATF and mineral oil.

I didn't use a copper brush because I only fired 50 rounds through it this weekend.

I kept running patches through it until they were clean. A final step I run a dry patch through it and if it come back clean - then the barrel is clean.

I put some Walmart Super Tech Ep Multi-Duty Complex Hi-Temp grease on the rails just for dry-firing. Anyway, I got a gob of it in the barrel. The more I tried to get it out the more it went in the barrel.

So anyway, I cursed, got another patch and ran a the patch through and my greasy patch came out with a carbon smudge on it.

Did this happen because the grease is more viscous and got stuff the ATF/Mineral oil wasn't getting just because it's thicker?

I'm not advocating using grease to clean a gun barrel, I'm just wondering what happened.
