I've seen a photo of George and Nicholas together, dressed similarly, probably 1890s. You cannot tell them apart. They were within a few years of each other in age, and the photo was when they were perhaps early '30s - really fascinating. And if you compare them to Wilhelm, the resemblance is striking w/him, too, though not as shocking as with George and Nicholas.
The famous "Willy/Nicky" letters between Wilhelm and Nicholas at the precipice of WWI are hilarious if you ever read them. Basically Wilhelm all chatty and playing on family saying, "Dear Nicky, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't attack my empire! Please!, Yours, Cousin Willy." I've read Nicholas was thoroughly unamused by them (and he hated being called "Nicky," so was p'd off at that, too).
I think the OP may be mislead because of the abdication of Edward VIII over divorce. He was forced to resign the crown because he wanted to marry a twice-divorced American woman (Wallis Simpson). He was forced off the throne over it, but it wasn't because HE was divorced, and it had a lot to do with religious (CoE) and political issues, too. But that may be where the idea about divorce/crown comes from.
