Within a week or so, I've seen two different headlines that inferred that Prince Charles was next in line for the throne. I was under the impression that once he got divorced, he was no longer 'in line'. Did I miss something? Has something changed or am I not understanding how it works?

You know, I have the exact same memory...the deal for the Queen agreeing to the divorce without raising a stink was that Charles was out of the running to be King.
I have also been very surprised to hear that Chuck is the heir presumptive and can only think that the deal was somewhat informal...the official order of succession was not changed, but he will abdicate in favor of his elder son when the Queen is gone.
The thing is, though, assuming the Queen passes away before abdicating (and I think there's no bloody way she's abdicating), Charles could then do whatever he wanted, right?
Unless he's worried about royal ghosts....

Nope. The divorce did nothing. It's Prince Charles next, then his oldest son, Prince Andrew. But the Queen is still hanging in so we don't don't know how long Charles will be King. Interesting thing is that Prince George is in third position after Prince Andrew. Harry is way down in 6 th position because unlike the Saudi Royal family, succession in the British Royal family is through children and not siblings.

Harry's got it good. He get's a Royal paycheck and get's to live like a King without ever worrying about having to do King stuff.

Charlie is deffo next in line if Liz pops her clogs tomorrow. Nothing has changed as a result of the divorce. We've been doing this much the same way for the last thousand years so traditions will be honoured.

I do sort of recall that Old Horse Face won't officially be known as 'Queen Camilla' but neither is Phil The Greek 'King Philip'; he's a mere Prince.

Hope that helps...

Is he actually Prince Philip any more? These days he looks more like Skeletor!

Andrew is Chuckie's brother( Duke of York, Fergie's Ex, For the time being 7th in line, soon to be 8th, when Duchess Meghan gives birth ), you're thinking of William (Duke of Cambridge)

Right! I meant William, Charles', eldest, not Andrew, his brother.

She has very little power. It's a ceremonial position.

My wife follows all the news about the Rayal family. So much so she went to see the Queen when she visited Houston.

Me, I don't give a flip. I am far more interested in Royal Purple oil than the Royal Family.

The pageantry is awesome The family rolls with it and everybody has a good time. These are the scenes of life that never happened. I wonder if anybody has calculated the "draw" of the Royals as a tourist attraction?

Hi
Act of settlement 1701 dictated if Queen Anne produced no Heir the Succession would pass to nearest Protestant eligible. This led to the Hanovarian line starting with George 1.
Basically anyone but a Catholic got the job.

Saxe-Coburg and Gotha came from Prince Albert's Marriage to Queen Victoria. Changed the name to Windsor in 1917. You can imagine how popular a German name was in 1917.

Remember, three Leaders of WW1 were all first Cousins. George V, Tsar Nicholas and Kaiser Wilhelm. Millions of ordinary people Slaughtered because of a Family Tiff.

My answer to that is always that if power involves 18 hours a day, 7 days of week, of ribbon cuttings, dedications, and other selected stuffy events, I'm glad I've got no power.

The lady herself has said the happiest times she has is when she's able to make simple sandwiches for herself and watch some TV in peace.

I've seen a photo of George and Nicholas together, dressed similarly, probably 1890s. You cannot tell them apart. They were within a few years of each other in age, and the photo was when they were perhaps early '30s - really fascinating. And if you compare them to Wilhelm, the resemblance is striking w/him, too, though not as shocking as with George and Nicholas.

The famous "Willy/Nicky" letters between Wilhelm and Nicholas at the precipice of WWI are hilarious if you ever read them. Basically Wilhelm all chatty and playing on family saying, "Dear Nicky, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't attack my empire! Please!, Yours, Cousin Willy." I've read Nicholas was thoroughly unamused by them (and he hated being called "Nicky," so was p'd off at that, too).

I think the OP may be mislead because of the abdication of Edward VIII over divorce. He was forced to resign the crown because he wanted to marry a twice-divorced American woman (Wallis Simpson). He was forced off the throne over it, but it wasn't because HE was divorced, and it had a lot to do with religious (CoE) and political issues, too. But that may be where the idea about divorce/crown comes from.

Stop reading the gossip rags and you won't see that royal family nonsense.
