So I'm going to be picking up a remote oil filter housing for my car. However, it states to use ph8 or hp-1 (L39000 or L39001). The car uses the 90's sentra 2.0 L14477 filter with a bypass of 14-18 psi, neither of the ones above use the same bypass pressure on is lower and one is slightly higher which do you recommend.

L39000 bypass 8-16 psi

L39001 bypass 18-20 psi

If I were to run the L39001 with slightly high bypass pressure do you really think its going to hurt anything?

The PureOne PL30001 looks pretty close in size, etc. It would probably fit fine an a remote adapter. I wouldn't worry too much about the bypass valve setting. On a gigantic oil filter like these, the bypass valve doesn't have to be set as high because they have tons of media area and flow a lot better and hold more debris than that small stock L14477 filter.

That makes sense about the bypass pressure just wasn't sure on finding a similar filter to fit the housing. how do you come up with the info so quick? as in knowing a similar filter size.

What is your objective of doing this?

When you change oil is the filter full of crud?

You are adding hoses and clamps which can fail causing total engine failure.

If you are trying to get more oil into the system, percentage wise this will not help much.

The benefits do not out weigh the risks in my mind.

Better off installing a inline transmission filter.

Go to Purolator's website, and find out what vehicles (using their on-line tools) the L39001 fits. There will be a whole list of vehicles. Hit the "Next" button in lower LH corner to see more pages of the list.

Pick a pretty common vehicle out of that list - (ie, 1988 - 1996 FORD F-250 Pickup - V8 460 7.5L F.I. (VIN G) - then go look up what filter they specify for that vehicle - the PureOne should be listed there.

This is actually for a semi race car that will also have an oil cooler and thermostat installed. The reason for my confusion was I wanted to install a certain remote mount of quality and type it just so happened to specify a certain filter.

I wasn't quite sure about messing with bypass pressures from running different filters.

Go find a Purolator L30001 or PL30001 in the auto parts store and look how HUGE that thing is.

It's about the same size as a ph8, and looking more i may be able to even get away with the smaller PL14670.
