Recently acquired an 07 Ford Escape with the 3 liter DOHC engine. Fairly low mileage.

It takes a PH2/FL820S filter - Should I go with the OE filter? Or would something readily available at Walmart/Canadian Tire be of quality? Not sure what Walmart carries these days but I seem to recall Bosch and Purolator, no FRAM anymore. Canadian Tire have Quaker State, Motomaster, Mobil 1.

We've got Carquest/Napa/Safeway auto parts places locally as well. I don't know who makes their filters.

FWIW whenever possible I use the bigger PH8 filter when I have the room.

The MC filter will perform very well in your Ford. I have been using MC in both Fords for several years and do 10K OCIs.

Cool, thanks. I'll probably buy a few from RockAuto since I work while the dealer is open (I'm a mechanic but I've always used whatever was on the shelf for a filter)

I am amazed by this motor. With the miles I've got on this oil change it should be as black as night (I've got maybe 7500 km on this oil/filter) and it looks like I put it in there last week. I road tripped it from Ontario to Nova Scotia and it used 1/2 liter of oil in the 19 hour drive.

that wont replace the ph2

I think I actually misremembered, it's 16 that interchanges with 8, not 2 that interchanges with 8.

+1, especially for the price.

^^ This, all day, all week, all year.

I use the MC FL820s filters on the 3.0 Duratec in my 03 Sable, exclusively, at least so far. They have always served me well. I doubt you'll find a better-built filter for the price.

Bought an FL820S today. Seems of a much higher quality than any of the parts store filters I usually see.

[censored] expensive at the dealer though. Could buy 3 on RockAuto (excluding shipping) for the price of one at the dealer parts counter.
