I don't think it was a miss. Common explorer name.

My best was 1,000,000 km on a 1981 Chevrolet Impala, using solely QS GB 10w-30 and Wix filters, with a 10,000 km OCI. The cam was replaced once, since Chev small blocks were always hard on them, but that was it. It was driven to the junk yard; the body was not doing well anymore.

1,000,000 kms is very impressive with our harsh driving conditons here in Canada

My coworker had 300K when we worked together....he may have gone another 300K for all I know. I doubt that though because NYC is hard on a car. The body/chassis probably
gave up before the motor. I remember asking him about his OCI and he said he always did 3 or 4K OCIs until he hit 200K and then he started extending them to 10K (because he assumed the motor would die soon).....when he got to about 270K, he realized it could run a lot longer so he started taking care of it again.

It definitely did its duty. That was almost exclusively city miles, but it wasn't raced or abused. Besides, who would want to race an Impala of that vintage with a 305?

That vehicle is one of the reasons I don't find an overwhelming need to run synthetics in applications that really don't need them. 6,000 mile OCIs back in the 1980s with solely QS conventional is pretty impressive, if you ask me; even more so that it went over 600,000 miles.

So, anyone who doesn't trust Quaker State (in applications for which it's suitable, of course) or claims it causes sludge or is inferior has obviously never done maintenance using the product from the time it was picked up from the dealer until it was driven out to pasture.

That car went through 500 litres of QS in oil changes over its life. A buddy actually used to take the used oil and run it in his oil-burning Vega.

I've been running QSUD in my Hyundai Santa Fe without any issues since new--5000 OCIs with Fram cartridge filters. I run syns for the kind of driving we do and the temperature extremes, but I'd feel just as good running green bottle I think. Like I've said before, I think QSUD is the best deal in a syn that you can find.

its made by or owned by pennzoil

Shell bought Pennzoil-Quaker State Corp. several years ago. Johnny might know if there is any difference between the brands. (Wolf's Head was also in the deal, but was recently sold to Amalie.)

I'd use QS without reservation. Some have said that they've used QS for years with good results, but that means nothing. Any product is as good as the current owners and current specs, and QS is in a good place there.

I've run QSGB in the past, and have some in the stash right now.
I've also used QTP, and have a few closeout jugs waiting for their moment of glory in an engine at the moment.
QS is a SOPUS product, and can therefore be used without hesitation.

As far as I've been able to determine, Pennzoil and Quaker State are kept fairly separate; they use different base stocks and slightly different additives. And they compete with each other.

Seems to be working.

Slight difference in the base stock and a totally different additive package. Last report I got, Pennzoil used a mixture of infineum and one other (can't remember the name right now) and the Quaker State uses mostly Lubrizol additive packages.

Last I was told, Pennzoil uses Group II+ base stocks, Quaker State and Formula Shell use Group II.

I'd use any of them with confidence. When I was a kid, oddly enough, Pennzoil was harder to find than QS or FS. My dad tended to use QS all the time, with the occasional use of FS, which was also easy for him to get; his brother owned a Shell service station in town.

It's pretty hard to beat the deals and availability of QS and PYB these days, at least up here.

I know for most this would be hard to believe, but Quaker State has been the number one selling passenger car motor oil in Canada for the past thirty five years. Go figure.

I don't doubt it. When I was a little kid, as far as I knew, the only PCMOs available in Canada were QS and FS (and Castrol, which I saw on TV), and that only Esso and Co-op had HDEO. Since my dad tended to buy from bulk dealers, I didn't get a lot of exposure to other brands or products.

Just used it for the first time this week. Engine is as smooth and quiet as you'd expect. I'm sure it's a fine product.

Menards has GB on sale for $1.98/qt so I picked up a couple cases. That's about as cheap as you'll find any name-brand dino around here.

Struck out!!!
Went to Kmart to pickup 12 quarts of Quaker State 50w-30, wouldn't ring up. Manager said it was an online sale only and they would not price match! (When I clicked on the link on-line it said "Temporarily unavailable") I had the printed out coupon in hand so I told them to keep their oil.
I probably could have tried another store but on the way out spotted an Advance Auto sitting next to it, now have 10 quarts Havoline and 2 L25230 filters below $30.00 added to stash.

The same thing happened to me when I presented the advertisement at WalMart for the price match. That was 2 weeks ago and I left the oil on the counter and left. WalMart said it was an on-line special for Kmart and they did not price match for on-line sales.

So you went to Kmart and they would not honor their own promotion for $1.75 a quart? That is very weird since it's their own special and when you try to buy it on line they tell you that it's currently unavailable on line. So if you had a copy of the page that said it was currently not available on line....would they honor the advertised price in the store?

If not then it tells me that they are just doing these specials without availability, to try and lure customers into the store!

Mongo161-

I did tell her (the manager) that it was unavailable online, that is why we came to the store. I did not have the print out, since I didn't think it would be an issue. I think she was just being nasty and nothing I said would have made a difference.

I agree, they probably need business and are trying anything to achieve it.
