Is Quaker State UD synthetic still a good oil for the price without getting into rebates just off the shelf at WM?

I wouldn't feel uncomfortable using it, if I remember the VOA is right up there with Penzoil.

I've never bought it because whenever I buy oil at Walmart, one of the three major companies are always on sale there (Mobil, Penzoil and Castrol). The only thing I haven't seen on sale at Walmart is Royal Purple.

I've never considered it a budget synthetic, only a great synthetic at a budget price.

On a somewhat related note, AAP has QSUD on sale with a tearolator filter for $21.99 and you can upgrade to the tearolator ONE for $2 more. I decided to take chance on the Purolator filter for my Silverado's next change. If it kills it, I'm about 6 months from lease turn in and it's still under warranty.

I know it will be fine.

Back to the original topic. Use QSUD with confidence. Been using in one or more applications for 5-6 years with blissfully uneventful oci's.

This is no more than marketing.
Pennzoil is positioned as the premium SOPUS brand for this market while Quaker State is positioned at a lower tier.
Quaker State has even been advertised as "Blue Collar in a bottle."
QSUD appears to be virtually identical to PP these days. This has not always been the case, as one used to use a Lubrizol add pack with the other using Infinium.
There are also some Quaker State formulations that are unique and attractive, like Defy.
I'd feel perfectly comfortable with QSUD and would use it just as I would M1 or PP.
I have some in the stash and have yet to use it, although I do have the very similar QTP in my old E350.

I've used it in various vehicles over the last few years. Always seemed to do well. I ran defy in my wires high mileage Santa Fe before getting rid of it and it also seemed to do well there.

2.0 or 2.5? Just picked up a new 6, and trying to decide what oil I'm going to go with.

Hey Camprunner the Quaker State full synthetic is a very good product. 3900 CCS at -30°C is very good. Which in your area is very likely at times as you well know. Like others have said it having the HTO-06 approval is very good because it is tested on used oil.

BigD1 I would bet people put Formula Shell full synthetic on the same level as QSUD and below PP and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. But in reality it probably is very close to those other offerings from SOPUS. Finding Formula Shell full synthetic is not easy in my area. But the conventional Formula Shell is at Home Depot for $12.97 plus tax for a 5 quart container.

Well stated Nickdfresh. +1 with your analysis here.

Quaker State currently has a $7 rebate.

OP specified, not taking rebates into consideration.
