Q Power motor oils

Hi All,

I am presently using Q Horsepower 5w30. I was unable to find the 5w30 version at Wal-Mart as they seem to only carry the 10w30. They do have the Q Torque in the 5w30 and I was curious if there was a big difference between the two oils. It cost me quite a bit at Autozone for the Horsepower version and it would be cheaper to buy the oil at Wal-Mart but I want to know the difference between the two oils if possible. I am very pleased with the Q HP and would prefer if Wal-Mart sold the 5w30 brand but if there is not a big difference between the two brands then I could just buy the Q Torque 5w30. If you have any input on the differences it would be great. Thank you.

Go with the 10w30 with your climate. You will see a lesser Noack number with the 10W - should help lessen consumption.

QTorque Power is very good oil. Only one OCI with it shut-down my normal half-quart consumption in 5K OCIs. What surprised me most - is switching from 5w30 Supertech Syn and Castrol Syn - to 5W-20 QTorque Power in a nine year-old V6 - then show almost zero consumption. My measured loss in the 5K OCI run with 5W-20 was only around 4 ounces.

I would also like to know the difference between Q Torque and Q Horespower.

My guess is that there is some substantial difference as the Horsepower series is GM4718 spec and the Torque is not. I am sure there are other differences but I am not an expert. I can only tell you what the jug states.

I think the HP is the old "Advanced", which meets more specifications than the Q Torque. If I had to chose, I'd take the Q HP. I found some HP at Menards with an $18 rebate on a case of 6. The case cost $23.xx, so I'm basically paying $1 a quart. I stocked up when both the Torque, then the HP, were introduced and, with my new case from Menards, have about 3 cases left.

I love the Q HP and will stick with it myself but I hope Wal-Mart starts carrying the 5w30 version of it soon. Much more economical at Wal-Mart in the jug.
