I'd be more worried about the poorly Nissan radiator destroying my transmission.

I did the transmission line by-pass, taking it out of the radiator loop, many years ago for this reason. The aux. cooler on the transmission lines these vehicles have seems to be more than adequate to keep things cool. Also did a complete radiator flush, as well as a transmission flush replacing the Nissan Matic J with Mobil synthetic ATF. Mine stills shifts as smooth as the day I bought it. Still not sure what the problem was with ATF/anti-freeze mixing. Some claim it was the Matic J eating some weak welds in the radiator.

I don't believe that a synthetic (Group III, IV or V base) will handle fuel dilution any better than a conventional Group II or II+ base stock oil. Remember, synthetics aren't magic, they (mostly) give you a broader temperature spectrum and/or are better at temperature extremes.

A guy named "Bob" taught me that over a dozen years ago.

PYB is a proven performer and a great value.

If you want to step up a bit from that choice, I'd go Pennz HM or an HDEO oil like Chevron Delo or Pennz Long Life Gold in 10W30. However, you will be harder pressed to find a bargain on these niche oils. You might have to search hard for them ... or special order them.

Mfrank84 states he's in Georgia. Given them temps the vehicle will likely see, the Xterra probably won't know the difference between any XW30 oil. The slight differences that might help with excess fuel dilution will come from the add pack with HDEOs being the best of the bunch.
