Purolator ONE. Did I just make a mistake?

I used to use PureOnes until the tearing thing.

Then moved to Fram Ultra. Then Advance stopped carrying them and I had a gift card for Advance so I bought 2 of the blue Purolator One. I thought they would be okay but am now reading the horror stories here.

I just installed one on my 2014 Accord. Am I okay to leave it on for the next 6000 miles? Should I get rid of the other one and switch back to Fram Ultra? Is Fram ExtraGuard also good now that they have silicone? I assume Bosch Premium is bad since it is same as Purolator One?

So I am not likely to end up with plastic pieces in my engine? I guess probability would say no.

What is your view on the mid level Fram vs the Ultra? Ultra worth the extra few bucks I assume ?

I don't remember if 14610 (that is what they are right?) was a frequent offender in the tearing issue or not. That particular design isn't subject to the ADBV cuts that some part numbers are though.

If you ran it more than 15 minutes you are over my limit or a Pure One though...

If it tears, one OCI probably won't matter, and if it doesn't tear you're golden. Me I got rid of my stash or Purolator filters, this way I have one less thing to concern myself with.

The Ultra is the best deal considering it is a 20K filter
I have ran them out longer than that.
If you have a remote filter location that is a pain to get to- the Ultra wins again

Yes, you made a mistake.

P1's tore as much as the white and red cans.

+1. I've made the switch to the Ultra's as well. No need to worry about quality issues with the Ultra. Run them for two OCI.

I currently have a Bosch Premium on my Corolla and have used them before with no problems also have used both the old Purolator PureOne and the new Purolator One 10K can. I've never found one with a tear yet. I used them prior to changing to full Synthetic in 3 to 4K OCI and now with several brands of FS in OCI's of 5K plus. I have yet to find one of their cans with a tear in it now for about 7 plus years. With OIC's running usually twice a year. My Toyota filter is an extremely small filter.

HangFire: you are right and Oildudeny, I hate to say it but Purolator is trash. HangFire's link is proof Purolators are Tear O Lators

It's luck of the draw or flaw any filter could tear.

Of course they aren't designed to tear, but they have a huge history of tearing the media in use. Brittle weak media and wide spaced pleats don't like force on them from flow delta-p. And it doesn't seem like there is solid evidence yet that they don't tear today.

But maybe the OP might want to use them, and cut & post the results in the name of science.

If they do tear towards the end of 3K-4K OCI, it will be along the seam. Chunks of filter material shouldn't come off. And even with a small tear only a small portion of oil flow goes through the tear. I'd use them until gone. When I last ran Pure1's I was doing 3K-4K OCI's. I wouldn't trust them any further.
