Looking at PS fluids at Advance today & noticed Valvoline is about $1 a bottle more expensive than Maxlife. Since they are both made by the same company, I wondered why would there be such a difference in price? Does the Valvoline offer something the Maxlife does not? Anybody know why?

i used maxlife atf dex-merc and could not be happier. It is a much more advanced fluid than regular ps fluid. think of the add pack in atf and the extremes it has to go through. regular ps fluid is nothing more ( yeah its a bit more) than hydraulic fluid with red dye.

I never understood why it is a dollar more and your post sparked my curiosity about it. I always use Maxlife in all my cars, cant be happier. But why exactly is it a dollar more? I do not know.

I use Mercon V...and per the Valvoline website, it is full synthetic.

Possibly MaxLife is a 'blend'...(but I'm not sure), thus the difference in price.

Contact Valvoline and ask.

It may not apply to you but here is my take on the Valvoline PS fluid. I tried it in a 2005 Corvette, and it dang near killed me. I couldn't make turns sometimes, the PS came and went. I basically had to limp home and luckily made it. Went back to the GM fluid and all was well. Take it for what it's worth.

maybe old stock, maybe the synpower PS uses a different source for base stock, although maxlife is supposed to be full syn also. Redline PS is very good also

Maxlife stuff works well, but it made my steering WAY too loose and light. The Mazda3 had light steering, but it was well controlled and it worked well.... In a cavalier, not so much. It caused problems. I added a bottle of that Lucas Power Steering Stop leak or whatever, and it fixed it and it is just right now.
