Protec 7317 style

Bought a case of twelve protec filters off of rock auto . 7317 sized . This is the first one I have used . Made in China .

Of a crv with 77700 miles . 5154 miles on filter . Kirkland 5w30 syn

Filter looks good . Even pleats and the nitrile bypass is still soft . The only odd thing is there seems to be some dirt at the top of the filter where the bypass is . Not sure what that is about

I use them only for 5k oil changes as I have 3 vehicles that use them .

Looks pretty dark and dirty for a filter with only 5k miles. I initially assumed it was from a diesel.

1.5 T engine. these engines which i have 3 of , always seem to blacken the oil after 2 to 3 k miles . Been so since they were new .

Filter looks good... oil , not so much..
That's amazingly dark for 5k / gas engine.
Does the oil smell like gasoline ?

Looks good to me. And very similar to the made in China M&H "purolator" TL series posted here. If same, centertube has holes not louvers.

Yeah, agree oil almost looks like diesel. At 5k miles, pretty sooty looking

Filter looks good but I would try another oil. Taken any UOA on that oil ? Maybe add an oilcooler if its running hot ?

That's crud from the engine. What oil is being used?

Holes not louvers . Don’t see an any missed ones . Been using Kirkland 5w30 in this for a long time . Level never goes up or any gas smell in it . Seeing this happens to all of my 3 I just think it’s normal to blacken it.

Normal for your use case but that is dirty like mentioned. Do you have short distances? What year CRV?

2017 and a lot of mixed highway and city . Gets warmed up and where i live cold is the 40's in winter . Driven by a little old lady . All three of my 1.5T do the same thing . oil get dark in 2-3 k miles

What does the black scum layer inside the can and on the drain back valve indicate?

Do you have a photo of the bypass valve?
