I cut a Firestone open about a year ago and they were the same as the ST (made by champs) I wonder if they change recently.

I've got a ProLine on my Subaru now as of this past weekend. I've read conflicting stories about the amount of media that these Purolator-made filters have as compared to a 'real' PremiumPLUS/Classic, but whatever it is, I'm sure it's fine for a normal OCI. I had no problem buying a few.
It's very doubtful that filters like the Proline made by Purolator have equal to the 97.5% efficiency of the Classic. It's likely closer to the AAP Total Grip, 94% multipass, and has slightly less media.

That said, I've used to AAP TG for 5k OCI's (cut open) with no issues. The Proline I'd expect to be the same/similar.

It does look more like a champ. filter..what do you guys think?

I vote Champ made for the Firestone. Looks similar to the blue button ST bypass design. A look at the base end would confirm but the bypass isn't a Puro design.

And it is BITOG nature to hate what others hate just for the sake of it.

Well not 100%, I know you are reffering to fram, but the filter without one doubt is WAY overpriced for what it is. That is most peoples problem with the filter. Really no way to defend a filter with that construction when it is running 5 bucks. The Ecore on the other hand is running 2.82, 3.50, your choice of media, regular or GM spec media. Fram Orange can should be priced at 2-3.75 nor more, the tough guard should be 4 and no more, just me two cents.

I agree.

It's odd that they are using a Purolator-ish numbering scheme, as a 14477 is Purolator's longer Toyota filter. Advance Auto did the same thing with their Fram-numbered yet Purolator-made Total Grip filters. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless that gives them the freedom to change suppliers if they want to, I guess.

Good point. I've speculated that Advance used the Fram numbering system for the AAP Total Grip, so as not to appear to be the same as the Puro Prem. Plus which were sold in the same shelf area before being moved to the back. Perhaps it was part of a Purolator/Advance agreement in order to sell the less expensive Puro made AAP TG.
